Written and recorded this afternoon, and it probably sounds like it. This is literally hot off the press. The mood struck so I knocked it out. I don't do political stuff, so this is about as topical and current-event as I get. :D

Occupy Starbucks

Any mix comments/critiques are welcome and appreciated. :guitar:

Thanks,
Greg

Occupy Starbucks

I'm going downtown tonight
I'm gonna protest, cuz it's what's right
And late at night, in my tent alone
I'll tweet about it on my iPhone

Down with the 1 percent
You can't trust the government
We're pretending to give a fuck
And when we're done we'll occupy starbucks

I've got nothing to lose
No job no money and not a clue
Wall street, a bunch of fucking crooks
I better update my facebook

cuz we're the 99 percent
Hey fuck you government
We're all shit out of luck
Hey let's go occupy starbucks

We hate the lucky ones!
With their stocks and bonds and mutual funds
I quit my job this week
Cuz they have more money than me!

I'm so involved against corporate sin
Nikes are really good for marching in
Hey bro, why are you here?
I heard there was gonna be free beer.

Cuz we're the 99 percent
We forgot what protest meant
We're all out here, young and old
As long as it doesn't get too cold
We're just a bunch of fucking schmucks
I'm tired, let's occupy starbucks

Good song, very catchy. It's a bit rough at times, but considering the punk/protest theme you have going with this song I would leave it as it is, haha.

Cool thanks. Tell me what you think is rough and I'll see if it jives with what I think is rough. I hear several things that could be better.

its an anthem for the times we live in and Ive sent it to Fox News

Im glad you have finally awakened to the plight of your brother man, and are taking a stance against the hypocrisy of a society supporting the wealth of a minority, when children starve on the streets

god bless you Greg and all who sail on you....

Thanks. It came out a little poppier and gayer than I had originally intended, but for a joke song in one afternoon, I'm overall pretty happy with it.

Very good!

I think it sounded perfect. the lyrics are really good as well. I think you nailed the protest movement perfectly when you said "We hate the lucky ones".

Lol,

I loved it, very amusing.

I really like the way the vox sit in the mix, nice loud and clear, out front just right.

This is the Gregor the Terror I enjoy, perfect opening tune for a Horrible Bosses type movie.

As an old, (both in terms of my age & of my activism), lefty I think this is great. All movements want apologists but what they need is a precision critique - particularly on the matter of hypocrisy. Your critique is spot on and funny to boot.
Blockading Wall St whilst being a high end participant in consumerism, (for goods and commodities produced in sweat shops on top of it all), is hypocritical and demonstrates a failure to recognize the core of the problem. Yep, the bail out has given the surviving shysters more air and a bouncing castle to land on. The fact that our pension funds, superannuation funds, banks, building societies, continue to participate in investments of dodgy ethics, that we buy the coffee we could make (then again instant was considered pretty decadent once), that we don't actually understand what Jello meant when he screamed, "give me convenience or give me death" all point to the fact that protesting is good but real action would start at a much more basic and inconvenient level.
Now, the song - WAY COOL! I don't hear anything that should be fiddled with as it's a spontaneous & honest spray at a current event. Topicality shouldn't be held back in search of purity.
Great stuff Greg, funny & fun.

Lol - you're the Walter Tores of punk .... What will you have up tomorrow? :)

Nice tune - sounds pretty good to me on my small Sennheiser headphones via the work PC...

I'd love to hear it played over the PA at a real Occupy <insert city here> protest... there'd be a riot. :laughings:

Good stuff, as always.

Bring it out to Austin!!! :D

Great tune. No rough spots to me. Good lines, too. I know you say you don't ever put much effort in lyrics, but these are pretty kick ass.

Love the guitar tones. Great edge and punchy. As far as suggestions for improvements, I've got none. ;)

Cool... haven't had my Gerg doseage in a while. (Sorry I missed the others...)

Thanks dude. I don't usually mix my vocals this much out front but I figure this one needed it.

Haha, thanks Ray. People like Jello had the balls and wit to rant at both sides and point the finger at his own kind while being funny about the whole thing. NOFX is really good at that too.

Lol. Thanks. Those occupy dummies would probably dance along to it, and then halfway through go, "wait, uh, what did he say?" :laughings:

Awesome, thanks for checking it out Chili. :)

you need a video for youtube.

Now you need a video. maybe someone wearing a V-for-Vendetta masks with cue-cards with the lyrics (thinking old bob dylan), and mixed in with news clips of Occupy hippies beating bongos and such.. :laughings:

Haha....entertainment garanteed whenever you post a new song, Greg!:D
Theme is great and actual....
The recording is a steam-roller as usual. I thought the voice was maybe a bit too in front, but what the hell do I know about mixing punk....
A couple of "S" sounds in the voice stood out at me, not that they bothered me that much though....just pickin' pins in a haystack here....:spank:
Great stuff once again!

Lol. I don't mess with videos. They take ten times longer to make than the actual song and no one watches them anyway.

Thanks Joey. Sibilance is always a battle for me. The vocals are more out front than I usually like them, but I figure for this dumb song in which the lyrics have to play a major role, it should be more out front.

Fuck yeah!!!!

Fuck yeah! :D
