OC 703 Aluminum Backing

What's the consensus regarding the fiberglasse's aluminum cover? Is it best to remove it or leave it alone. If left alone, in which direction should it go? I'm planning to build some traps with a frame and a plywood backing. Is it the best approach to position the fiberglass's aluminum side to the plywood cover? This will result it 3 sides fairly closed with 1 side opened and covered with a fabric.
 
For bass absorption, leave it on and facing the room. Ethan did some experiments concerning this, but I can't find the link. Maybe he can chime in.
