Once again, a great rendition from you, Jon!
Nothing one can say about your voice, except that it sounds like a gift of God :)
The only criticism I might have is once again the EQ on the voice. It has a lot of high mids on it which can make it somewhat sharp on the ears. I would try not EQing the voice at all, just leaving it flat. Another thing I would do is put the reverb and delay on an aux send and EQ the highs out. But it's all part of the learning process....

Once again well done!

Joe :):)

Thanks Joey! Yeah, I think I set the highs on the mixer a little too much. How do you put the reverb and delay on an aux send and EQ the highs out?

I'm listening to your song right now, it's really good! :D You should watch the movie "Frequency" (with Dennis Quaid and Jim Caviezel) if you haven't already. The storyline echoes your song quite closely. It's one of my favorites.

Try to take away the highs from the reverb. That should take a lot of the sibilance away. You have a gift, man.

Hey Jon!
I use Samplitude so I don't really know if it's similar in Cubase, but the principle should be the same. You add an aux track to the mixer and put your reverb/ delay plugin on it and EQ it just like you would on a normal audio track. Then you activate the aux send on your vocal track and regulate the quantity of the effect from the aux send on your voice. Hope this helps, but I'm sure the guys here can explain it better than me.

Cheers
Joe :)

The vocals do have a sort of concert hall sound to them which is cool, but I hear what they say about the eq needing some tweaking. I'm not too computer savvy so I can't suggest to much on the aux send stuff. But I did really enjoy the rendition of this classic tune. Your voice is a gift and I look forward to hearing more from you. The monitors seem to be working okay as the balance is good.:D:cool::D

Marcadiablo, thanks for listening, appreciate it man!

Joe, thanks for explaining. I'll play around with Cubase and try to find out the features I'm still unfamiliar with. I think I know what you're talking about. It's like having an effects track seperate from the actual audio track, right? I was trying that out a few days ago, I need to read the manual. :D

ido1957, I think the orchestration in this piece seems a little more realistic than the other recordings. It's the first time I tried using some pads in the background. It's amazing what a big difference these monitors make, the sound is much better than with the computer speakers, haha. Your feedback is always much appreciated!

Hi JPP - Beautiful rendition! I'm still new at recording myself, so I don't have any specifics I could help you with, but I can speak to the overall style, feel and sound of it since I am a vocalist and musician. The vocals and music were great! It did sound a bit echoey or hall-like to me as an overall sound. Sounded like I would hear this in a large auditorium or the like. Not sure if that was what you were going for. Wish I could have heard this before Christmas - I would have played it all the time!

Jen

Sounds great! And you quietly did everyone a favor by pre-empting my version :D

Definitely looking forward to hearing more - sure wish I could sing like that

Jen, thanks a lot for the input! Interesting that it sounds like a recording from a large auditorium. It was the first time I applied the reverb effect directly to the track (I used to have a seperate reverb track). I'm still experimenting with the reverb. It seems like other recordings from this genre use a lot of reverb. I'm trying to figure out what's the best amount to use.

You can still play all the time until Jan 6. There's 12 days of Christmas! :)

antichef, thanks for listening! I couldn't find your version in the forum. Would love to hear it!!
