I had to reinstall windows (cd-rom drive ventured into the unknown and few programs would work) and thus also nuendo a few days ago.
In the installation process the program verifies the serial number, and all seems fine, but when i start the program it says it can't find the protection key.
I didn't have that problem when i first installed it.The dongle is one of those old mammoth serial port ones for nuendo 1.
Does anyone know what to do? I would rate the problem a tiny disaster, so any help is appreciated.

Have a nice weekend.

I once had to use my boss's laptop to record with Nuendo. When I first booted it up, I got a similar message. I shut down, put the dongle in a different USB port, restarted and voila, problem solved.

EDIT - Oops, missed the part about the serial port. Beats me. I'd call Steinberg.

Make sure the serial port is working. Computer meltdowns do funny things that you don't always notice right away.

Thanks for your replies.
I don't have a printer, so i'm not sure how to test it. At least it worked the day before the re-installation.

Look in the control panel. Make sure there isn't a ! next to the printer port.

Thanks, i'll see when i get home. It wouldn't be surprising. There were a few !'s before i installed windows.
Analog, sweet analog will solve the trouble some day in the not so distant future.

Thanks, that's nice to know if the dongle and not the port is caput. All worked fine three days ago.
Perhaps a dumb question, but is the code verified from the cd or the dongle during installation?
