I just started writing this about 3 days ago. The results have been amazing. I didn't really think I had it in me. I don't have vocals yet because honestly, I haven't written any. Musically, this is one of the greatest things I've ever written.

Anyway, I'm mainly looking for a critique on how the mix is coming and how the guitar harmonies come off. Also, any suggestion as to vocal style would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Here's the 320 kbps mp3: Nu Metal.

Great sound and nice riffs!
Snare sounds a bit loose to me, I would give it more presence. Nice bass sond and double kicks work great. How did you record the guitars? Love to hear it with vocals...

Cheers

I recorded the guitars with a Gretsch Synchromatic semi-hollow body. The effects were handled by a Digitech RP50 which was recorded line-in. I can work on the snare a bit. I agree that needs to have a little bit more bite and pop. The song was recorded with Adobe Audition 1.5. Thanks for the reply.

Could I possibly get more feedback? While what Joey said was awesome, I could really use some more input as to what could be tweaked or changed to make this sound a bit more professional.

Your guitar tone sounds good; I especially like the little harmonic "pings".

How many times did you track the rhythm guitar? It rarely hurts to add a few more layers of those!

I'm not so sure about the kick drum. I would recommend fewer, but more pronounced kick hits.

Each guitar part was recorded twice. The rhythm was panned 50% to the left and right. The background rhythm was also panned 50% to the left and right. The lead guitar was panned 25% to the left and right.

I didn't really want to record more than two rhythm tracks because I was afraid of making the mix too jumbled. Sometimes, the guitar parts vary a little too much and you get a lot of messy pauses and mutes... I think I'll keep it at 2 tracks for the sake of simplicity.

I think I agree about the kick. I may have gotten a little too carried away with it. I should cut back on it a bit.

Thanks for the advice.

sick song bro. i love your guitar tone. the ONLY thing that BUGS me is your high hat tone  .. sounds really funny to me. maby becasue its paned 99% to the right, but idk i think its the tone. sounds really electronic to me

kick drum sounds nice and heavy, a few to many of them, seems like if you had just a few less then it would sound even harder.

thumbs up tho

I like what you've written. This'll probably piss you off, but I can totally hear Amy Lee singing this.

Mixwise, I think the drums need to actually just come up. I can't tell if they have any impact because they're kinda buried. The kick's fine, but the snare and just about everything else could come up. I guess I'm saying it sounds like it was mixed by a guitar player. :D

The guitars...man, this is rough for me because people seem to like the guitar tone, and I REALLY like what you're playing, but the rhythm gits just sound like a fuzzy wash of "DI" blandness. The lead lines sound fine to me, but the rhythm guitars sound kinda...I dunno...fake? There are like no mids in the guitars. But I mean, fuck me, I can't get a decent electric guitar tone to save my life. (I use a digitech too :D).

Yeah, more snare and more drums in general. I like the tune.

Drums need a little more brass.

I think the guitar tone is okay. Except for the busy kick, this reminds me of Foo Fighters.

I wish I could play guitar like that....
