NTK for my Vocals/ overheads/..so.on??

I was doing my hewad in in so i have set my self a rule that im not aloud to go over £300 for a pare of over heads that my also sounds cool on a guitar amp..vocals...so on.

here are the ones i have picked out

1, Rode NT1a ...£135.99 ..................(this was my main choice but thought if i was allready getting the NTK i may want to go for another)

I was tempted to go Over my tight £150 ONLY if the NT1000 is much better than the NT1.

I would choose SDCs (mxl 603s, SP C4s, Rode NT3s) for overheads as well. Plus if you're already getting an NTK, then the SDCs will be a different flavor for acoustic guitar as well. You can use one in conjunction with the Rode or put the pair in front of the acoustic (assuming you actually need to record acoustic guitar).

If you do go with a pair of SDCs, I would suggest maybe going with something other than the Rodes just because you're going to be getting that "Rode sound" with three of your mics. Now, if you'll only be using the SDCs for drum overheads, then forget what I said about not going with the Rodes, and go with whatever sounds the best to you.

Kenny, yes it is for my vocal ....I have quite a loud high voice...but I also like to get low and close to the mike...I figured the Valve NTK would go well after hearing allot about it..

my ears are not pro when it comes to recording...so that's why I figger its best to go by what has the best name...at least then I know im working with mics that can sound good

I wanted to get mics like the SP C1 so I could use it as an overhead as well as maybe sticking it infornt of a guitar amp or so on.....

In my experience, the NTK sounds better when the singer is backed off a bit.

Also, I'm not sure if you know this but your signature line says "writter"...you may have meant "writer"

Oh, I didn't see that he was English. But still...writter...really? I know color/colour, shop/shoppe, but writter I've never heard. Any sage linguists have a definitive answer?

The NTK definitely sounds best with some air between the mic and the mouth, it also helps to get an angle from the source. I.E. mic at forehead level pointing at the source

I'm just realizing that whenever the NTK comes up it's usually Big Kenny and I who respond. We like our NTKs don't we!

I like my NTK. But it depends on your voice and your mic pre as well.

In such a chain, one problem component can compromise the entire recording chain.

I like my NTK too. Use it with a popper stopper to reduce the sizzle and things work better. Also, invert the mic, tube up and put the diaphragm at the bridge of the nose and sing right below the mic. The sizzle goes away and you have a nice warm vocal result.

I like my NTK as well. I also like C2000B, which is a small diaphragm mic, but in a larger housing. They make very good overheads, and are very good vocal mics on some voices. That said, I like AT3035 as well. On overheads, the C2000B sounds a lot like Oktava MC012. On vocals, it sounds like a darker version of NTK. That, right there, is a definition of a good cheap mic.-Richie

I also like/love my NTK. I have used a V67 and a SPB1 and the difference is like night and day, at least on my voice anyway.

Yup, I like my NTK as well. I also have the NT1000. It is a lot like the NTK but a little more pristine sounding.

I am English but thats not my Excuse, I am just 1, a bad speller and 2, stay up to late on my PC

I loved the idea of the NTK but I have looked into it and with the Rode K2 just come out whihc is £50 more than the NTK you are meant to get a Shockmount with it and a case that you don't get with the NTK....so for £50 more you get a shockmount a case and the Mic is meant to be a slight improvement on the NTK...

I guess once you get to one level of sound it all comes down to who is singing down it and so on.....

thanks anyway I am much more clear on what I need to be getting.

I will pop back and let you know how things are going.
