I have an NT1, and although I love the mic on my voice,

(great for low close-miked male voices - check out:

Yeah - I know too much lip-smack - but ignore that ;-) )

... I think I have hit a limitation with it for female voices.
I recorded this young girl vocalist (trip-hop band called Transtone) and found the vocal too thin. She blamed herself and I blamed me for not being experienced enough with the new (cheap 2nd-hand - but top of the range) Joe-Meek VC2 I have bought.
However, - turns out from reading the posts here that the likely culprit is the NT1. This was something I had not previously considered because I knew that the NT1 gave me such a great sound on my voice.
Can anyone confirm this for female vocals?
I am thinking of splashing out on an NTK. - But! - Is this a no-no if I am using the tube VC2? (ie- 2tubes in the chain). Is anyone out there using this combination?
All other sugestions gratefully received. (The TLM-103?)
Thanks for your help!

options

ntk sounds good to me but I'm biased. check out what options you have in that price range test and listen to as many as you can befor the hard earned dollars fly from your fingers.I recorded an all girl group(punk) a week ago and used a rode classicII and some of the results were out standing (some of them were hampered by enthusiasm, but it seemed to do the trick.

If you can't afford the NTK, the NT-1000 is a very decent mic. I have an NTK and I'm going out today to purchase a NT-1000 as well.

Hello, I have 2 NTKs at Zythum Studios and I think they are fab mics! They are great for Male Vocals (warm detailed and smoothe)

I would highly recomend this mic. For the money you just can't beat it!

Good luck in your hunt.

Thanks guys for the general info - much appreciated!
What's the general view on Neuman - Is the TLM103 as good/better than the NTK (I know - different sound) or do you pay for the name?
I searched on the Neuman web-site for info on comparisons - but was rather suspicious of the fact that the words 'Rode' or 'NTK' are completely absent from the lists for the past couple of years that I looked! - Draconian editing no doubt - but kinda gives me a steer - I mean, if they could defend themselves easily they'd leave the discussions in - yes?
