ok, i hope this is the right section,
i just wonder, i often use Hard limiting, not TOO HARD of course, but i use it,
mostly its just the basic hard limiter plugin that's built in ADOBE AUDITION

there's nothing wrong with it (i think) but maybe there's something out there that's got a different sound, or a bit different controls,

i worked with WAVES L2 , and i think i prefer that one, but i dont own that plugin....so i used it, and now no more;...

so i wonder, is there a LIMITER plugin that's worth paying money for ?
i don't just wanna collect like 10 different ones, i want ONE, and a decent one, thats it

any suggestions ?

friendly regards,
earworm

Voxengo Elephant. (Can't afford Waves!!) I think it was about $40.

i just use the sonitus plugs that came with sonar producer, it works pretty good

Yeah, I use the one that came with Cubase. I've used the waves plugin, and it's great, but pretty expensive.

spesive shmensive,,,save your dough and buy the L2.
its worth more than every penny .

i'd recommend the sonitus plugin that comes with sonar3.

i bought v2 before ultrafunk went defunct a few years ago. the compressor also has a built in limiter, so you can compress the beef of the sound and limit the transients.

i always used the hardlimiting plugin of cool edit (or Audition)
and a few times i had the opportunity to use waves L2

the L2 always was my favorite, donno why, maybe because of its easyness to use... but i didn't notice much difference in audio quality

can you pûrchase the L2 seperately ? or can you only get those big WAVES bundles ?

Yeah, we can't wait to smash the crap out of everything even more than we are now.

The thing is, one of the uses of limiting is to get as hot of a signal as you can without pushing over the top and clipping the input. But since all these plug-in effects have no effect on the signal until after it's already hit the ADC and if it's clipped there, it's clipped and no amount of post-ADC limiting is going to unclip it. If this is what you are trying to tame, you need a hardware limiter upstream from the soundcard.

Yeah, like they say: If the indicators are still moving, mastering is not finished yet". :)

It would be interesting to try L3 Multimaximizer though...

HAHA!!
but massive its the only way!!
WE need to keep the threshhold at around -20
WE NEED TO ATTENUATE AT -10!!!!

j/k
:D

I personally prefer the Timeworks Mastering Compressor and Voxengo elephant over the L2....the L2 IMO sounds too crushing then the other 2, which are more transparent IMHO YMMV

Your millage(sp) may vary. I like the L2. I like it because it is very very obvious when you have overused it. Atleast it is to me...

thanx.
Personally i only use the L2 to hold the peaks at bay.
But ive seen ppl use it and just crop the hell outa the song!
Im not so keen on that way of limiting.
For the way i use it it kicks ass. :D

ok

L3 ? i wonder what they'll update then ..

true, if you got clipping on your mixing desc, and clipping in your DAW,
then limiting won't save you from that clipping,

but: question: in cubase you can put realtime FX on your recording channel,
so if i put the L2 on my snare channel, just to prevent it to clip like a mofo... then i'm safe, no ?

Never done it. Good question..I do know I see most knowledgable people usually saying not to "compress" and I would figuire this would fall into that same sorta catagory. Just take alittle more time and track it properly. But I don't ever record drums so I am not your best bet to answer this...

i wouldnt recomend putting an L2 as snare peak limiter.
But i would recomend telling you drummer (before you hit record
;) )to play a standard hard hitting hi hat/snare/bass drum beat.
And have him really bash the crap outa that beat for about two minutes.
While hes doing that, check your snare levels!
Id Recomend keeping the peak level of him playing his hardest at around -2 or-3 Db.
That should keep the clips at bay.
But i wouldnt recomend compressing on the way in.
Ive tried it, and espescially on the snare-it can make the hi hat bleed too strong-plus! ITS PERMANENT! :(

take care. ;)
