Ok, I went on a splurge at Sam Ash and have a bunch of new equipment (thanx to alot of the folks on this site that helped me out with their insights/opinions!!!), but I'm extremely lost on how this all works. My equipment: Layla24, Mackie Mixer, and I'm running Cubase. I have 16 channels on my mixer and I'm confused on how I can record numerous tracks simultaneously into Cubase. For example, let's say I have 8 mics going, does Cubase have the ability to record 8 separate vocalists at once?

I am not sure if I have my in/outs running correctly. I am not sure exactly where the outs of the Layla patch into the mixer, according to the manual, I am to use the first 2 channels only for recording, the rest are to be used from the soundcard to the mixer. This doesn't make much sense to me, if I was recording a bunch of vocalists.

If you have any clue with this stuff, I'd really appreciate it. Thanx!!!

The layla only has what, 2 inputs?
You would need multiple ins on the card to record multiple tracks at once. You can however use your mixer for the multiple mics, but they would all be recorded to one track.
You can also track em one at a time.
