Hello All,

I am upgrading my very small studio by purchasing some monitors.
I am pretty much sold on the M-audio SP5's and I also have a powered Sony sub which I think I could hook up "if I really wanted to".
I will only use the M-audio's for mix down purposes, but what is a good suggestion for just general jamming out and etc. I was thinking maybe a cheap amp (under 200$) and maybe some of those like dj speakers so that I could just hear what I am playing out loud versus always through headphones.
Anyone have any suggestions- Oh by the way I would like to keep the amp and speakers in the 350-400 dollar range. Thanks.

C'mon guys and gals,

I know you all have some recomendations. Maybe I should state what I am trying to do a little more clearly. Since I don't want to blow out monitors that I will use for mixing; (Which will be getting the signal directly from my Delta 44 card) I will take the 3/4 output-route it to my mixer and then out into and amp into some speakers where I can just turn up the volume a little bit and here how a song or composition sounds like beofre I edit it. Better yet being able to play live along with other players, and or pre-sequenced music from keyboard and drum machine.
I know absolutely nothing about amps; but I was wondering if Pyle Pro was a good manufacturer. Don't have the slightest clue about loudspeakers except on the consumer audio side, and I definately don't want to get a pair from the local best buy and blow them out (been there done that!).
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanx again.

Here is my recommendation:

Tannoy Proto-J's and a Hafler Poweramp. In my opinion the Tannoy's sound better than the m-audio stuff and Haflers have the cleanest power for your price range. Hope that helps...

Use those monitors for tracking and designing sounds as well as mixing.
If you want something louder for playing/jamming get an old pair of JBL control room monitors and a decent solid state amp. Old Pioneer, Sony, Kenwood and Yamaha hi-fi amp/receivers are an undiscovered treasure. I found a 500 watt Yamaha 'natural sound' receiver for $40 once. Don't use junk speakers for anything but cross-checking a mix.
