I'm a veteran analog 4-track user who is finally getting a decent computer so I can do home recording on my PC. I'm planning on getting a Dell Pentium III,w/ 128 MB RAM. I'd like some advice on which soundcards or peripherals in the low-middle price range are best for home recording. Basically, I'm looking for something which will allow me to record on at least 8 tracks, mix & edit easily, comes with built in effects and can be upgraded or expanded fairly easily. Any and all advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Search the forum for old posts. There are about four million posts, and opinions, on this subject. You'll find suggestions on every last piece of equpment that goes into your computer.

Also, do you need the capability to record and play (send to a mixer) eight simultanious tracks or do you just want to be able to mix eight tracks (or more) in total but only record four ro even only two at the time. It makes a big difference in the digital world.

Welcome to the jungle
