Hi all,
I use Cool Edit Pro 2.0 to try and record some stuff.
The thing is, every time I try to record something I am never happy with it and I ALWAYS end up not saving what i've done and exiting the program. Then, 10 minutes later i do the same thing, and it's simply because I don't think I'm really happy with the program.
What I want is just a simple program that doesn't randomly stop recording, and something that is a joy to work with. Something that crossfades perfectly, something with plenty of effects, but with a huge user friendly interface that anybody could use. I need something that will not make me get bored sick after about 10 minutes of use! Is there an alternative to this program!?

Well, first of all, CEP should never "randomly stop recording". I have had CEP and Audiotion in my bag o' editors (along with many others) for several years now, and have never had a problem anything like that with it. There is most likely a problem with settings, driver(s) or other sundry computer issues that's causing that.

But if you want a change, there are at least a dozen other recorder/editors out there that will perform the basic functions you are looking for. As to whether they will keep you from getting bored or not, I can't guarantee that at all, that's totally up to you and your tastes. :)

But ones I have used and can recommend include Steinberg Cubase (VST and SE), Cakewalk GuitarTracks, Adobe Audition, Sonic Foundry/Sony Vegas and SF/Sony Sound Forge and Digidesign Pro Tools. Note that Sound Forge is only good for mono or stereo file editing, but the rest I mentioned are all multi-track capable.

There are many other very good editor/recorders out there including SAW, Sonar, Logic, etc. I just can't comment on them personally as I have not had the pleasure of experiencing them firsthand.

I use Tracktion. Download the demo version here.
