Hey guys I have 6 drum mics, an MG 12/4 mixer and I am in the market for an 8 track.

I want to be able to record Guitar or bass and drums at the same time. The typical 8 tracks I habe looked only have 2 inputs, and those would be taken by the mixer. My mixer has no more inputs so thats out. In addition, I want a built in CD burner so I wouldnt have to use my computer at all..my dad probably wont let me use the computer.

I was thinking the VF160 ( the one with 8 mic inputs) But its a lot of money..well more than I want to spend. Any suggestions?

The Tascam 788 is one possibility. Runs about $800 with burner.

Korg makes a D1200mkII which is a 12 track that might be an option. Runs about $1000

One other area to consider is EBay. You can find some good gear there many times from folks moving up in capacity.

800 and 1000 is more than I wanted to spend.

What options are there If I want to record a guitar and drums at the same time. Are there any recorders that have 3 or more inputs for less than $700? If not we can make do.

And one other question. if I plug a guitar into the same channel as my bass drum, I can hear the guitar and it sounds good, but it doesnt show up on the light, bar thing..sorry for lack of technical terms. Does this mean it wont record?

Right now, a VF160 with CDR, can be had at Musicians Friend for $699.00. This is a GREAT buy. There is NOTHING out there that touches this value (in my exceedingly humble opinion!).
