We have recorded our upcoming song at home. It sounds not so heavy and fat. For example the guitars sounds too digital but i used impulse response and its not fat enough.

DAW: Cubase 5
Line 6 UX2 with metalshop addon (big bottom, booster, mesa IR)
Drums: SSD with drum replacement, paralell compressed(waves H-Comp) and drum group compressed(Waves API-2500)
Guitars: only EQ and simple compression (CL2A Electric Guitar) Panned left and right and solo in center
Bass: pod farm, Cla bass, C6 multiband compression (fat fingers)
Master: iZotope Ozone 4

So how can i improve it? Please help! The instruments not blend together or i dont know whats the problem here...

Plenty of people do give a shit, but it can take a little while for a thread to get going here. While you are waiting, have you considered listening to the work of others? You don't need to be an expert to have an opinion of if you like or dislike an aspect of someone else's recording, surely you have listened to music sufficiently before recording your own to have reached some conclusions about your post?
Critique is a joyous commodity which one should give as freely as one accepts it, and therein lies a way of enhancing your likely-hood of being blessed with it, participation is the key.

Good luck

Sounds to me like everything is compressed too much. The sound is squashed. No room for instruments to breathe. Every instrument is a the same level, fighting for space to breathe.

I'd suggest getting rid of Ozone off the master track for a start. Get the mix right before you think about that. A dangerous tool in the wrong hands. Start with drums and bass. Get the kick and bass gelling. Then add other instruments. You shouldn't really need to be compressing every track. You're slashing the life out of it.

The instrumentation sounds good. I think you're just running before you can walk. Try mix it without any effects and add them where they are needed, not where you think they should be.

Really like this arrangment wise.....agree about it being a little overcompressed/narrow sounding...nothing is "breathing" ...kinda find the kick drum distracting, although I know it is promminent in this type of music...snare as well sounds a lttle to tight , for my taste anyways...great playing on guitar and bass tracks....would just like to hear the mix sound a little wider

Hello there, the thing is too loud in my opinion, to overcompressed as queepy said. I think the drums are fake right? i have nothing against them, but this ones doesn't sound cool in my opinion. The kick is to plastic, you could add more "boom" (i don't know how to call it), the snare sounds too tight, I get what you're trying to do with the drums, but in my opinion, you cross the line with the metal sound. The guitar sound very good, maybe too loud, but that could be the evercompression with the master.

Regards,

I really like the song concept.

Agree with above regarding things sounding squashed. Try taking off anything that you regard as "mastering" from OZONE and just go back and work on cleaning up the EQ and compression(if any) on the individual tracks. I feel like there is a lot of just basic frequency overlap contributing to the challenging sounding mix. Try cutting the bass on the rhythm guitars to leave room for the bass guitar. I love BIG guitar sounds myself but found out long ago that cutting the bass on them is the only way they'll sit well in most mixes -- they'll sound lame on their own but good in the mix. The overlap of bass guitar and distorted/overdriven guitar with lots of balls makes for a really muddy and confusing low end. Also, if you have more than one guitar part going at the same time try EQing a "slot" in the denser guitar part for the other guitar. Also, if there is more than just slap on the kick drum(I can't really tell myself) then try to EQ out a spot in the bass guitar for it -- either roll off the lows on the bass or slot it in. It's all about making room for things sonically.

Just some basic ideas that usually help to clean things up a lot. It can surprising what a difference a bit of EQ makes.

Thanks for the feedbacks! I removed all the compressions, and for the master i used Slate Digital FG-X Metal preset. I post the result soon. Thank you all! :)

Agree with the compression comments. The overall level is really loud too.

Some of the guitars sound OK, some don't. Good playing.

I'm also hearing some low end rumble. I'm hearing some low mid mud in the bass too.

You didn't mic anything. It's all artificial. No wonder it sounds thin and weird with no depth, space, or dimension. On top of that you squashed to literal death with "mastering". First thing you do is make a good mix without the master squashing and all the parallel compression. Don't do things because you think you're supposed to. I find it hard to believe that drum samples need that much extra work. You probably don't need to compress overdriven guitars. They're already compressed. Don't you guys have any real amps? Mic one and you'll see what I mean. You basically overcooked this thing to a crisp. Just because you have a bunch of very high-end plug-ins doesn't mean you have to use them all at once.
