Not Receiving MIDI Signal/Data?

I've been trying to get this thing to work for hours with no avail, please tell me what I'm doing wrong!

I'm plugging my Techniques digital piano into my laptop via a USB MIDI cable (IN on OUT, OUT on IN). When I plug it in, I get all the little popups that say that the drivers have been installed successfully, etc... However, when I open up FL Studio 8 or Finale Notepad and go to setup my MIDI settings, I see my keyboard ("USB Audio Device (generic controller)" and I setup it up as explained on the hundreds of tutorials I've read, but when I go to play a note, I get nothing.

The "signal" lights on the cable aren't blinking, and the "MIDI Activity" light doesn't light up in FL Studio. In other words, my computer sees the device, but doesn't receive the signal.

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? It's beyond frustrating. -__-

Hello, make shure your keyboard and computer are set to send/ receive on the same midi channel.

Hope that helps.....good luck

Midi is not audio device its data only
Did you set up a new midi channel and select the input? in fl studio and enable the record
I'm not familiar with fl studio but most daws are similar these days.
Which tutorials did you read? post a link pls.
Is the midi activity icon in the bottom right of the corner (system tray) indicating there is midi activity?

You may need to click the ASIO Setting to get it to work.
