Not able to record with Emu 0404

I am coming through the monitors loud and clear, but when I press record on the cubasis, I get the metranome and when i play it back nothing. I am going through an external mixer, and I have read through the manual, but I am missing something, it is frustrating. could someone post some walk through steps , for me to go through?

can you see the wave signal in the track? Its it not just playing back or is it playing back but there is no sound? can you tell if it recorded or not? Also make sure you have enabled the vst in for the channel that you are recording from in your patch mix. In your patch mix look at the left or right strip. play something and see if there is a signal in the signal indicator at the top of the strip. the first strip from the left by default is 1/2. in your cubasis you have to active the vst in for this to apear as an input.

i have the emu 0404 as well. it was frustrating because i couldnt get it myself. i called their service line and the guy led me through it all the way. it's pretty confusing, especially if you're a beginner, like me.
