hi

so i record a track... into SF 6.0.
and what i usually do is normalize it to "MAXIMIZE PEAK VALUE 0.00dB"...

be it if im recording guitar, bass or vocal.

and then what happens when i throw this file into my sequencer (Kristal - free on the net!), i find myself having to raise the faders up a bit... to between -6dB and -3dB.

should i be normalizing my tracks in a different way??

thanks

You shouldn't be doing it at all. Sound Forge is designed more for editing and mastering software. Can't you record directly into Kristal?

i can, yes.
but the sound is just not the same. i've heard it should be like that,,, that it should soung the same, but it doesnt.

what happens if i keep doing what im doing? why is it bad?

(i had a laugh now, cause ive been doing it for about a month now)

oh god :(

When you normalize peak, it's just raising the volume, but how much it raises it depends on the highest peak already in the file. Why do you want your files so hot anyway? I guess you're only recording at 16 bit.

im recording 16 bit, yeah.

on the Kristal mixer... my master is way below -6dB and still clips.
i;ve got 3 tracks inside (vocal, guitar solo, and bass) that still clip. vocal i am going to redo, the guitar solo i could figure out, and the bass im working on (i've probably posted a thread about that problem somewhere on the board  )...

but whats up with it clipping at under -6 dB ??

you think thats becuase i normalized all my tracks on S.F. ?

should i be even asking you this? haha
