hi everybody.. I'm very new to home recording and I'm looking to buy a beginner level condenser mic. Right now I'm using a PC based DAW with an M-Audio Delta 1010LT and a Behringer UB2222fx mixer. my one and only mic is a Shure PG58.. nothing special for sure.. but for $40 I guess it is what it is.
I need help deciding between a few opinion and I'm also open to others I might not have thought of..

ADK A51 V & SC-1 w/ cables $150
AT2020 & AT2021 pack $150
AT3035 $150

right now I'm leaning towards one of the mic packs to give me more options but I could always spend a little more on one condenser and maybe get a SM57 shortly after.. since I'm so poor :) Thanks in advance!

PS I'm wanting to mainly record male vocals, acoustic guitar and mic a 4x12. mainly blues/rock/alternative type stuff.. a mix of Hendrix, Audioslave, Alice in Chains.. etc would I be better of getting an SM57 instead of the small condenser or will the PG58 be a decent enough dynamic mic if I get the condensers?

SM57 is a good all-around choice for a dynamic mic. If you're going to be focusing on guitar that would be the one I would recommend.

If you're going to be focusing on vocals you need to choose between the LDC's listed. Go to a store where they sell them all and use your ears.

Some male vocalists that I've recorded over the years request an SM57 --- they're good for vocals too.

Thanks Ssscientist :) So you're saying the mics I've listed are all good mics and more a matter of personal preference and how they interact with my voice right? I think my local store only stocks AT mics and not ADK but that would at least give me an idea..

Thanks for the reply!

i think most people on this board will tell you that the best mic for vocals is the one that sounds best on your voice. theres no reasoning behind it, its as simple as "if it sounds good, use it!".
if you want to run a studio you're gonna have to grab an all around good mic and hope it gets you by until you have time to afford enough options for all different vocal types. since i mostly just record myself and similar vocal styles i can't help with that..

Thanks Treymonfauntre.. I guess the real problem here is that I live in a small town and Im only really able to base my buying decision on online reviews and message boards.. plus most of the stuff I'm able to afford is stuff I get on ebay without ever having a chance to try it out.. but of all the info I've been able to find on the mics I've mentioned none of it has been bad so I guess I'll just have to flip a coin or something :D

ok.. I think I've decided on the mics I'm going to buy... I read the reviews that Harvey Gerst gave on the MXL mics and from what you guys say his opinion is held in high regard.. He sounds like he knows his stuff to me.. and at any rate I KNOW he knows a hell of a lot more than me! of course, that's not saying much at all.. but still :D

OOOH!! Careful! That link actually says MXL 2001, not 2003! You don't want the 2001, believe me! Look for a kit with a 2003!

...good work picking up on that Phil!...he's right about that...you DEFINATELY don't want the 2001...probably MXL's weakest mic...go for the 2003 instead (as he recommends)...much smoother and more versatile than the harsh 2001...

...best deal here!

ahh.. thanks guys :) Yeah, I listed MXL 2003 but didn't notice zzounds was selling the 2001  well, that's ok because I had found them cheaper "elsewhere" and wasn't buying those anyways ;)
