Hi

I'm starting out with my home studio.
I want to record electric guitar, acoustic guitar and vocal.
each one at a time. not simultaneously.

to my understand I should start with an audio interface which a basic.

what I need from an audio interface:
# 1 (maybe 2) XLR mic inputs and 1 Instrument Jack (1/4” is it?)
I want to record one input at a time. (not simultaneously)

# built in preamp (I won't be buying any kind of preamp soon)
# phantom power
# powered by usb 2.0 or higher

the budget is up to $150 at the moment but it might change if I won't be able to find an online store that ships internationally within reasonable shipping rates.

my current gear is in my signature, I will be buying a better microphone to record both electric guitar (from my amp), acoustic guitar and vocals.

try the pod studio ux2, I used to use that, works well and seems exactly what you're looking for, within your price as well

I use Cubase 6, and whilst you'll need to check it works well with your particular version, I've found the Steinberg/Yamaha CI2 works really well with the kit, and especially the software as it is designed to do so. There's two versions I believe - seen both working and both do a great job.
Hope that helps.

a 2nd vote for UX2.

i been messing with a UX2 (line6) and its probably the funnest interface I have ever used, due to the software PodFarm/Gearbox stuff.
great converters, 16 or 24bit, and USB as you wanted, it doesnt have many I/O's but you didnt seem to need that either.
i got a used one for $70 on Craigslist.
the software layout, in front of the DAW, is so well loaded you dont need anything to get good tracks, except a mic and instrument.

I'd say up your budget to 250.00 and get a Tascam us-1800, that way you wont have to upgrade....for a long while. It's just money :0

wooo, someone with a lot of rep agreed with me! I dont even know how the rep thing works...

cubase 6 or cubase 5 ? I see Steinberg/Yamaha CI2 comes with cubase 5("Cubase Essential 5") : Start : CI2+ Advanced Integration USB Studio | http://www.steinberg.net/

ok, so these are the recommended audio interfaces we have so far:
* pod studio UX2 (line6)
* Yamaha CI2 (comes with “Cubase Essential 5”)
* Focusrite Scarlett 2i2
* M-Audio Fast Track Pro
* Tascam us-1800 (out of budget, try to find it second hand...)
* PreSonus AudioBox USB

any more ?
