So I took your guys advice and auditioned some monitors. I really liked the krk rp8's. I've got about $500 to spend. Am I making the right choice?

I really like the KRKs. The 8's are bit heavy on the low end but overall a really good monitor. (Also, hows ur mixing environment?)

My mixing environment is not the best but not the worst. I have the book" Home Recording for Musicians by Jeff...... so i took his advice and installed some bass traps. thats really all i have D:

ahhh i knew somebody would say that :)
But there's alot of truth in there and more[sound;)]. I'd say it's 98.53% of the battle.
Are you making the right choice ? Peut etre oui, peut etre non. But it's irrelevant because it cannot be answered before the event. Some happenings in life determine that wisdom be procured after the fallout.

:D Win the battle .... then the war!

I always say, shopping for monitors is a crap shoot. KRK's are respectable monitors, so you're probably okay. You've got some bass traps, good for you, now you can learn your monitors in your room. Do a lot of listening to commercial releases in the genre that you want to record. And really listen to them. Listen to every instrument in the mix. Listen to the freq spectrum of each instrument, where they sit in the sound stage, reverb, delays, panning, etc.

Remember the commercial releases have been mastered already and are probably squashed to hell and back. Your mixes won't be like that, so don't get misled because they will sound different. You're listening to the different freq bands and how they sound in your room.

cool.
