hi im trying to figure out whast the cheapest way, not neccesarily the best, to record directly to my computer.
i have cubase sx and ive been using it to edit tracks ive recorded with my digi camera, yes ive been recording with my camera shoot me now
im really tired of all the hiss and ambient noise ive been getting so thats my only real reason for wanting to change anything
i cant afford to spend more than 50-75 bucks so im hoping theres a good mic that i can plug directly into my computer for around that, i dont think im going to get much into any more elaborate interface
im trying to record justme and my acoustic guitar, though sometimes i go electric i hardly ever use any distortion or gain so a mic focused on the acoustic should be fine

i dont have any idea what to look for so any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

heres the lowest cost. find a relation with a cassette deck they dont want and plug a cheap dynamic microphone into the mic input of the deck. and line out of deck into sound card line input. you will need an xlr to qtr inch adaptor to hook the 3 pin xlr mic into the cass dek. from radio shak.
instead if you can come up with a few hundred bucks. and your using on board sound (not very good !). i'm assuming your using a PC and not a mac look at a cheap tracertek.com sound card by hoontech - about 90 bucks and install it in a pci slot of your puter. also buy something like a cad gxl
1200 condenser mic (50 bucks) and a small yamaha mg series mixer
(about 100 bucks) . total cost about 240 bucks.
listing your current pc config would help.
if you want a great cheap multitracker for your pc and editor check out what i use powertracks from pgmusic.com. its superb for 29 bucks.
talk to other usrs at the pg user forums if you dont believe me.
you can try the demo for free.

any mic would be better then what you are using now.

A camera mic?!?!?! wow...thats a new one.

Look anywhere for a budget mic, make sure it doesnt require phantom power then (usually condensors) cause then you will need to spend more $$ on a phantom power supply.

Hey, I tried that too (the camera mic thing). This is post-two-regular-dual-cassette-decks-and-a-mixer-days, and obviously before the point at which I am now struggling. I had a riff that I came up with while intoxicated that I just couldn't bear the thought of forgetting, the next morning I wished I had forgotten it.

Point being, we all have to start somewhere... :)

BTW, where is Flossmoor again? I know I asked but have forgotten...
