Hi All,
I've got most of the gear that I must have for my recording set up (its modest but im happy), except a drum solution. In an apartment now so real drums out of the question. plus ive been loving midi and i thought that an elec kit should fit perfectly! but my question is, how can i use an electronic kit with cubase sx 2? after doing some reading here, im guessing that cubase can actually get the sounds from the drum module? maybe i read that wrong. what I assumed was that i'd have to load kit into, say, kontact battery, and assign every drum pad to one of the samples. but then this would take forever to do with all the zones and such. is there an easy way (if its not already done anyway) to record midi drums using an electronic kit, preferrably using the sounds that come with the kit?

im thinking about these. budget is a BIG issue and this set has pretty awesome reviews.

I'll tell you how to make a lot of money.

How good are you at "DIY" stuff?

You can build that exact setup for about half what they want for it.

Here's the basic kit for $190:

You can convert it to an electronic kit for probably about $50.

They make rubber "practice cymbals" that can be converted to electronic cymbals for a few dollars each.

You would still need to convert to MIDI, but you could pick up a sound module used, or put the difference that you would save for DIY'ing the kit itself, into a better grade Sound Module/Trigger to MIDI converter.

Would'nt you still need a hihat and pedal too? Plus the cymbals and electronic conversion. Sounds like it would end up costing more like $350.

not really interested in converting acoustic to electric. so does anyone know anything about my midi question :D

you would use send midi out from the electronic drums to midi in of cubase to be recorded to a midi track. in order for that midi track to trigger the sounds in the drum module, you will send midi out from cubase to midi in of the drum module. to record the sounds from the drum module to cubase, you will send audio out from the drum module to some audio tracks of cubase.

is this what you meant?

exactly! wow. sounds complicated but thank you.

nice nice nice. now to get enough money for the kit!

it's not complicated once you get down to it and actually do it. you'll run a midi in cable, a midi out cable, and a couple of audio out cables. what Tim Brown mentioned is the same thing as buying a pre-made electronic kit. That link that he gave is'nt acoustic drums, it's practice pads.
