We have KRK's Rokit G2 (Generation 2) powered studio monitors and we are Abelton 8 for our recording software.

We we are plugged into the alesis and have Abelton running to record we get a 1/2 second delay. Tried adjusting settings (sample /buffer rates) and can't get anything to work. Still get that dang delay...

Don't know what we are doing wrong....

The PC is using on-board sound....do we need to get a sound card? Will this eliminate the delay?

Is it a setting we are missing?

Is there anyone else out there using the same set-up? i.e. an alesis IO2 and abelton 8? if so did you have any problems? what are your settings?

Any and all help is very appreciated!! Thanks in advance!!

You need to use the ASIO drivers for the interface. I looked on the web site and it says to use ASIO4ALL drivers, which is kind of bogus. I thought most interfaces had there own drivers. Anyway when you are using that interface forget that your internal sound card even exists.

I don't know Ableton, even though I have a CD somewhere that came with my M-Audio interface. I just couldn't dig it. But the Cubase that comes with everything else on the planet I know. But you have to go into Device Manager on your computer and disable the internal sound card. Reboot. Now open Ableton, and check that the Alesis is listed as being the input and output device. In Cubase you pull down the 'Device' menu. After that, if you never use the internal sound card again, and only run through the Alesis, you should be OK. It's a hassle, but a necessary evil.

9 USB ports... wow. Do they make a USB powered lava lamp yet?

Well think i might have solved my own problem.....it would seem that thousands if not more are having issues with USB interfaces and getting them to run on windows 7. Seems this alesis is for XP. Sooooo its no wonder that its not working right on windows 7. Kinda frustrating.....ohh well trip back to guitar center and return this cr@p!

If they make a USB lava lamp I'm so all over it! :)

I learned not to put 100% blind trust in Microsoft years ago. Any fancy upgrade or update is often a rushed attempt at looking like they are cutting edge, and then they spend more time writing patches. Vista was a time bomb. I doubt 7 is much better. I stuck with XP for many reasons. It's tried, tested, and stable. Well, as long as you avoid SP3.
Hey! Apparently you can run Windows 7 in XP mode if you have Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate. Just a thought.

ranjam..i did the same thing, I actually went back to windows 32 where life was just fine. bought a old disc and found a full version someone didnt want. it will do 24/192 just like any other windows. upgrading the pc every two years is hopefully done for me, so I can upgrade monitors or something else.. :D

Windows 7 64 is rock solid - significantly better to XP - it's not up to MS to patch USB devices but to the 3rd party manufacturer in this case Alesis.
There is no XP mode in windows 7 it is an emulation and will get you far more trouble than benefit.

Actually, to split hairs, I've always understood that USB enumeration and setting the address is firmware, and more up to the BIOS. So Microsoft is off the hook this time. And Alesis (or whoever) can only do so much designing their drivers. I guess they go with the popular platform, and that's why I still avoid anything past XP Pro. Most of the popular and low budget consumer recording gear was designed around it, and almost always guaranteed to work in that environment. It's just numbers, unfortunately. That's why no one is jumping through hoops of fire trying to make a lot of this gear work with Snow Leopard. Are you going to exert more effort and look after 98% of your clientele or 2%?

the posters having latency issues....using "onboard sound"...

I suggest disabling the stock audio card in the pc, via Hardware Manager/Device Manager....and forcing everything through the Alesis I/O. Go into Windows sound and select the Alesis, and especialy in the ABLETON software preference/device setups remove any "check marks" leaving only the Alesis as the soundcard option.

then the output needs to be verified its Alesis.......
seems no matter what brand, or unit, ASIO4ALL works well. maybe try that.?
so this is more a case of setup, probably.

interesting coments on the MS versus the old gear and driver upkeep ownership.

my analog stuff never needs upgraded or daily updated..or all of a sudden doesnt work with the new Windows "X" version.
I'm starting to appreciate the anaog world.
The old SM7, SM57's, and Joe Meek, in the front end, and the analog YSM1p monitors don't get outdated or stop working. And this is a good thing.....

I'm going to try to avoid and maintain a XP setup for as long as I can. It does 24/48 and mixes down to 16/44.1. It sounds just fine. If it can handle the siftware and grpahics is seeming to be my issues this weekend. A new muti IN/OUTinterface and this old pc crashed and froze 5 times now, and I think its the ATI card (old one)...it never crashed with the old old 2/in 2out interface
