Non ECC vs ECC type ram

I have a self built audio pc that runs stable but a little slow on file crunching. It is a P3 700- intel, gigabyte mobo.

It presently has 256mb pc133 cl 2 ECC type ram , but I was noticing some decent deals on micron non ECC ram.(1.5 gigs worth) My mobo will handle (3) 512 sticks.
What problems, if any, would I have using non ECC ( possibly nonregistered)for heavy audio use?

For digital audio, non-ECC memory is fine.
