ok when i'm monitoring and someone goes up to the mic about to sing or even when they are singing I get a fuzz type sound that is like equal to the vocals... I can cut it out through pro tools but while I'm recording the bands are like WTF? and it also bothers the hell out of me! if the mic is just left alone with no one around it there's no sound what-so-ever and it's perfectly quite... WHATS THE PROBLEM HERE!? it didn't do this before.

Yeah me too. Every now and then I have a real bad case of if I go up to a mic and tap it or talk into it, buzz and hum rise up with the signal is going through it. Ahh, help us.

Are you guys using compression/expansion or anything else in the signal path? Are the vocals clipping on the preamp?

nope, the VU meter doesn't even go near the red so i know it's not clipping... I have the gain turned down but the drive all the way up... (otherwise I wont get any sound) I am just running a shure sm57 mic to a BlueTube pre amp by an XLR to XLR cable then from the pre amp to the mixer with an XLR to 1/4 male... could this be the problem? should i use two XLR to XLR?

No compression... it runs through a BBE processor, but that just adds some light hum. Probably just a grounding thing...

Where do I begin. First, the drive is pure distortion. Turn it all the way down and the gain controll to set levels.
Second, why on earth are you sending a mic preamp to a mic preamp (the mixer)?

the preamps in my mixer sux .... it's a behringer if that explains it

Are you running the Blue Tube into the behringer preamps? That would be another problem. Connect the BT directly to your recorder or run it into some line level inputs on the board, not mic preamps.

Crash- Take the BBE out of the path. No reason to use that while tracking.

maybe the output on your soundcard is to high. Mine does that if its on +4. it will look like its not clipping but it will be fuzzy.

oops disregard my post i thought it was only happing on the output and it wasnt getting recorded like that.

Well I don't always track with it. My current set up I am only able to mix on my computer, until I get a soundcard that doesn't suck etc.

But the soundcard being up to high turned a light on in my head. The line level input is not that high, it's rather low. However, the output is cranked to the max. I'll fiddle with it.
