i just moved into a studio with an otari mx5050 mkIII. right now its in the shop getting a new pinch wheel and maybe calibrated. do i need noise reduction? does it have to be outboard? (i have the Waves diamond bundle) What is my best (cost is very much a factor, unfortunately) option?
thanks for your help

Tape hiss is very subjective so you'll have to listen and decide if you "need" noise reduction (or not) but in general I'd say no, you don't need one if you use good tape and if the machine is up to spec.
