Hi guys.

I have been using my 2-10 Behringer modeling amp on stage and I would much rather use my Johnson loredo 10 inch tube combo amp. I have a pedal board full of effects, and no noise reduction pedal, and the noise was too loud, and that's why I have been using the Behringer. I want to buy a noise reduction pedal and use my beloved tube amp again, but which noise pedal should i get.

Does a pedal version work as good as the ones these modeling amps have in them?

Where in the chain should i put it? Should it even go after the delay and reverb pedal, or only after the overdrive/distortion pedals?

Thanks.

Are you looking for an attenuator or a gate? Nosie reduction kill any signals below a certain level, but when you talk about your valve amp it sounds like you wanna run your amp with acceptable bedroom volume.

Where you place your noise reduction is dependent on where your noise is coming from, but is usually placed pre spatial effects, like reverb and delay. A noise reduction stombox is a simple gate. Only more expensive rack units actually identify and eliminate (through EQ and gate processing) the actual noise from your signal.

Boss NS 2 has a handy send/return feature...you can put it before your distortion and OD units and send them back through it and then put your time based effects -chorus, delay and phaser - afterwards. Other pedals include an ISP decimator.

Hi.

Yeah, I guess just a gate. My tube amp is making a loud hiss when my overdrives/distortions are on, even with my guitar turned down. It drives me nuts in between songs.

What kinda guitar?? It's probably due to the wiring in the room.

Well, distortion and overdrive pedals hiss. This is a "problem" with all amps when you leave pedals on and you turn down your guitar. I make a habit of turning off pedals between songs. To me, gates are really unnecessary unless you have a big ass 80's rack. If you said your guitar with the volume up and no pedals on and your amp on clean was causing a huge hiss, that would be something I'd check out in the wiring of the guitar. This is normal.

That's all a gate will do...or when there is no signal being output, for example, coming up to or after a distorted solo. When you don't play with OD or Distortion on, your amp can hum like a son of a bitch, which mics will pick up.

True... I guess I don't see the need to spend the money if I can manually do it.

Yeah I hear that! But I suppose alot depends on your guitar. Sometimes I wish I had humbuckers.
