I have been recording on 24 tr fostex hd recorder in 24bit 48k . I have been mixing down to dat thru my soundcraft desk. I have tried loading the final mix to my computer thru a M audio Transit usb & editing in Abelton ( which came with the transit usb interface ) . I have used the spdif digital out from my dat for this . I have done this in16 bit 44.1k as I understood that is wht is required for CDs .. I have then burnt a cd in my computer using the supplied software (sonic ) - I seem to hve a digital gltch sound on the resultanrtcd _ i do not thionk this is in the master - I think it is in the transfer to the Abelton software from the dat -- any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong Thanks

Digital ports like S/PDIF and ADAT usually requires deciding which device is the master clock and which device slaves to that. Conflicting clocks can cause clicks and dropouts.

You need to look at the manuals for your Transit and DAT and figure out how to make the computer the master and the DAT the slave for clocking.

That >should< fix it. Also make sure you're using a quality cable.

hope that helps.

Almost ALWAYS a digital input will default to slaving to the sending units clock (which is contained in the data stream), so I seriously doubt that it is a clock issue. Not saying that the chance isn't there, just that normally the digital in is slaving to the other devices word clock without you having to do anything.

You need to back things up to trouble shoot.

First, a "digital glitch sound" is a VERY broad term. Does it happen often, or just every few seconds, or every minutes, or is it random?

Next, if you play the .wav files that are on your computer, do you hear these glitches? If you don't, then there is a good chance that your burning software is messing something up (although, this is a very scant chance really).

If they sound like they still have the "glitch", then you have to investigate the transfer to the computer. Find out first if they are glitched when on the computer and let us know.

Thanks for the input- I have , as suggested done some listening -The sound appears to be every few seconds , and it does not seem to be in the wav files when I plugged the computer (thru the Transit interface ) into the mixer- although ( at some volume ) there did seem to a lot more background noise in this audio path than just with the dat . SO does this mean something went wrong in the cd burn software?--I do not have anything flash - I only have what the computer came with , which is something called sonic , and the windows media player cd burners . Sould I get some better burning software ?

Should I also consider direct mastering thru the transit to the computer - without using the dat - I had used the dat because I thought that as it was 44.1k 16 bit (and as the signal in to it was analog ) it was putting my original multi track 24bit 48k into the right format for cd burning - is this right. PS I have little experience in the digital world. Thanks RossM
