how low is the noise floor of higher model cards?? Like M-Audio Delta1010LT, Audiotrak Maya1010.. those kinds of cards in the 200-400 dollar range?? cause im currently using my built-in soundcard for the line in input and damn! my noise floor is at around -35DB on the Meter on Adobe audition LOL!

Those will have a MUCH better noise floor than your soundblaster/ac 97/what have you soundcard.

perhaps how low ?? im pretty expecting around -50?? or -60db?

showing about -56 here in cubase with an onboard sound card.

there's this buzz sound.. very light.. why do u think that ?? Im running Tape Outs --> Line in.. I have a Realtek something soundcard. built in in my Biostar 6100 MOBO.. Socket 939

Because built-in sound pretty much sucks for recording.

Not sure about the1010 it has totally different breakout box, but here is a good article on the delta 44..

Since you use Audition, first check if you have hum or noise. Record half a minute, select all and the check the spectrum. If you have a single peak at 50/60Hz (with or without a range of harmonics) then you need first to check if that comes from your setup and connections or if it is the card itself.

whoa karyoker... i cant really understand what they're saying there ! Lmao..

all i want is when im not recording anything.. my builtin Realtek AC97 is at around -45 when i mute my LDC Condenser (Behringer C-1) when i Un mute it it goes up to -37 or -35 DB! thats like a 10 DB Increase.. it adds that .. "buzz" or "hum" .. i dunno what it is.. very irritating @_@

is it perhaps grounded ?? how would u know if its grounded and how would u take it out ?

what are you using for a mic pre? there is probably a grounding issue between your pre and sound card.

remember to add the self noise from that Behringer mic....ouch!

I just ran a little test.

My Delta 1010 has a noisefloor constant across all 8 inputs of -90.3

The Delta 410 closest to my AGP video card and the processor is -76.4

The Delta 410 on the opposite side reads -80.4

Guess I can live with that as I never use the 410 inputs for recording.....but if I ever do I'll know which ones not to use now. :)

wow.. thats really low.. all 8 inputs turned on ?? -90.3 ?? wow.. cant wait to go to the states this april and get my new stuff :D

and about the C-1 Mic.. its connected to my mixer .. Behringer UB-2222FXPRO.. yes yes i know sucky stuff lol .. any ideas on how to check if whats grounded or what not ?

Cards I've used:

SoundblasterLive ... -57db

Echo Mia.... -90db

Motu828mkII.... -94db

You 'gotta remember that an AC97 on-board soundcard is using about 20cents worth of chips and it's made for beeps and boops and occasional light gaming, not music reproduction.
