Hey nobody talks about pickups used for recording ... What do you have in your guitar ? Mine is S/S/H Strat style guitar with a Dimarzio FastTrack 1/Stock/Stock. Set it on my DiMarzio pickup for all my distortion guitar recording. Nice crunch. Just got a Virtual Vintage '54 .. haven't set it up yet in the middle. Will be using it for more clean strat sound recording. Perhaps getting an Air Zone in the bridge next for a warmer and crunchier sound.

Yes, I'm also interesting in pick-up information ,too.. Cuz I'm planning to change my pickups.. My setup is 2 Humbuckers. It's Jackson. I want to change my bridge pickup for a heavy and crunchy sound. Nice for pinch harmonic. etc. For the neck pickup , I want a warm and sweet sound. Anyone can recommend?

jelly,

If you want a KILLER pickup for that heavy sound, get a Carvin M22-SD. You can order them for around $50 each direct from them. I was looking for that sound also for my Charvell, and I couldn't be more happy with the results.

i use a seymour duncan stacked humbucker next the bridge on my strat. it is wired straight to the volume control and then to the output jack, by passing the tone control, and both other pickups are bypassed as well. i use outboard effects to access different timbres. very sweet.

DiMarzio's Tone Zone is a perfect humbucker in the bridge. It's output is more than any I've ever come across. Nice crunch and loud too. I don't consider it because I don't do it heavy. Air Zone is the less louder version of it. By the way I'm a DiMarzio guy.

I've got an 86 dodge 1/2 ton.
sorry about that one.

I have a Telecaster Deluxe Plus which previously had a Blue Lace Sensor P/U at the neck and 2 Red Lace Sensor P/U's at the bridge. They sucked! Over the summer I decided to change them. I took off the pickguard and discovered that I had enough room to add a middle pickup without additional routing. After doing a lot of research on different brands and styles of pickups, I bought 2 Rio Grande Tall Boy P/U's for the neck & middle and a Seymour Duncan APH-1 humbucker for the bridge (all used). I also changed the 3-way switch to a 5-way Megaswitch (from Stewart MacDonald). At pos. #1 (the SD) I can get a nice Les Paul tone, really crunchy like early ZZ Top. Pos. #2 & #4 I get a real nice Strat quack, crystal clear! Pos. #5 gets a nice, sweet jazz tone. And in pos. #3 I get the Tele tone, just like a standard Tele with both P/U's activated. So, out of this setup, I'm getting tones as if I had 3 or 4 different guitars! And I'm planning on buying the Snarling Dogs Veri-Tone pedal to add even more tonal choices. I highly recommend the Rio Grande Tall Boys, and the SD APH-1 if you want a nice breakup but not harsh. And I HIGHLY recommend the Stew-Mac "E" Model Megaswitch if you want a bunch of different tones out of your P/U's.
