I remember seeing No Sysnthesizers! on the sleeve notes of Queen's Night at the Opera and wondering why they would bother to mention it. Well I've been getting a bit too twiddle happy recently so this one is nothing but drums and wires. Unfortunately vocals have eluded me once again, but it's a pretty short one.

Called Insomnia. Any and all comments warmly welcomed...

So the synthy-sounding things are guitars then?

I think the rhythm guitar is a little too bassy. They're all low end, and the lead parts are all high end; it feels like there isn't much in the middle.

You've got some really cool sounds though. New sounds out of old instruments is always fun!

I liked this one a lot. The basic guitar/bass/drums interaction is solid as usual. To be honest, had you not mentioned the lack of synths, I would have thought them to be present here. You get some crazy guitar sounds to be sure! :)

Some great breaks in there which is one of your trademarks I think. Cool semi-backwards effects here and there...too many cool effects to mention actually. Agreed on the bassy-ness of the main rhythm guitar, but it kind of works as is. Thanks for sharing...

yup too much low end for my system...great sounds and for a sketch/ experiment definitely worth expanding and finishing...i had it as a theme track to something imaginery..

cool stuff but way too bassy :)

guys, thanks for the listens and replies.

VomitHatSteve - Yeah you nailed the issue. As soon as I read your your comment I realised that's what the problem was. I've lopped a bit off the bottom and added some more presence in the middle of those guitars. Thanks man. And yeah it's all guitars, running through this Korg pedal I recently acquired

heatmiser - Thanks for the comments hm. I might actually retrack that guitar, as I'm not that happy with the tone, and fiddling with the eq isn't making it any better!

kcearl - Yeah I hear you. I might dick around with this a bit more as I actually quite like it, despite it being deeply flawed. Cheers man

I heard it...bassy and all....and I really dig it. Definitely in the sound track arena....like some car spot where they tilt cameras to induce vertigo while the thing corners hard at 70mph. And , I mean, hiphoppers have redrawn what is the 'right' mix. All I'm sayin' is that the version I listened to raised my BP...exciting, and wicked impactful....because of the over-the-top bass drive. I've heard stuff like this before....in movies, too.

And it really explodes on 11! Sound great in one of those 10,000 watt car stereos with kickers.....windows flexing w/ da beat.

Cool sounds, good ideas. I like the high melody part when it locks in (like :13-:18), but it meanders around kinda purposely at other times. Nice reverse sounds after the stops. Sounds like a futuristic chase scene. Would like to hear more clear melodic ideas over the solid background but thats just my own preference and not mix related. Fun listen!

I agree with this. It is a little bassy, but it works fine. I don't think traditional midrangey Gibson+Marshall sounds are what this kind of song needs. I too can hear this during a movie car chase scene or on a video game. Good job dude.

Man, K ... powerful stuff.

This kicks ... love the echo stop breaks.

Greg hit it right on the head where this would fit.

Mixwise, you've a little tweaking left in it ... but this is a very good start ... and I know you'll eventually dial it in.

jeffmaher - Thanks for the listen Jeff, and seriously thanks for taking it to 11. That really is taking one for the team :D

Stratomaster - Yes it does meander a bit. I had some fun with my faders doing some experimentation blending and swapping two guitar melodies in and out. I guess I forgot that one man's blending is another man's meandering. Thanks for your feedback

Greg_L - Thanks for the listen Greg

K-dub - Yep still tweaking. Think I'll leave it for a while now. Cheers Kev
