i've tried a lot but i can't get any sound from my midi keyboard, which is linked to cubase. i've tried and tried and tried, but nothing works. if someone can help, i'd be grateful

Pretty vague, Tried what? Youare routing your MIDI keyboard through a soft synth right?

Routing= Keyboard MIDI out, to MIDI in going to PC,- Route your MIDI signal through a softsynth assigned to that CH, and make sure you're monitoring is routed to the Master output, and that should do it, I don't do a lot of MIDI, but I just route my soft synth, (EZ Drummer) into the FX bin, ( I use SONAR), and that works fine.

Good luck, I hope this helps.

thanks a lot for the two answers
after some i don't know how many hours of trying, i have one conclusion. the computer isn't recognizing the midi input of my keyboard. it is as if it wasn't connected. in reason, on the menu, the dialog where one chooses between midi inputs, the only option that appears is "no midi input", and not, as it should all the existing midis. i have an electronic drum kit, and it works. i have reinstalled the midi driver for the cable, interface between the pc and the keyboard. if someone can help, i've spent hours and hours and hours on this. if you need more details, please tell me about what. thank you.

What version of Cubase?
Soundcard?
What is selected for output in the track inspector?
Any red lights flashing when you hit a key on the MIDI keyboard?

i have cubase sx 2. my sound card is an external one, called mobile pre. for output in the track inspector, i chose vb1. i don't see any red lights flashing.
thanks in advance.

Perhaps the MIDI guys here can help out better, I've never used MIDI keys in Cubase. I have in Reason and once the cable's in, Reason knows and is ready for input. I would have thought it would be pretty similar in Cubase. Try all the outs in the MIDI track inspector, including the Microsoft one.
Not much help I'm afraid. Good luck anyway

i've tried all the possible outs in the track inspector. with "all Midi inputs" selected as in. cubase "hears" my electronic drum kit, but not the keyboard. the thing is three, four years ago i used cubase regularly, made some music. and i remember having to search a lot in the manuals (i read the whole manuals) before i could get a sound for the first time. for several reasons (work, etc), i haven't been able to play music. and i forgot how to get a sound in cubase. now that i can, and that i'm feeling the natural will to play music, i'm stuck with this problem. i've searched for answers in the manuals, but didn't find it. if someone has the patience and one or two ideas, you would be welcomed. thanks to those who've already tried. there must be some setting, some "detail" i'm not seeing.

I did a Google on this problem. Looks like a lot of folk have a had some trouble. Hope these help: Google

Dunno if any are SX2 but there's a few SX3 upwards.........

googling this problem is a very good idea, and i will look at the results carefully. but perhaps i've managed to point out the exact problem. i have two usb/midi interfaces. with one, an edirol one, the computer keeps asking me to install the driver everytime i switch on the computer, although i've carefully installed it. with the other interface, a yamaha one, reason still doesn't recongnize a midi input, which i think it should. (it recongnizes my electronic drum kit). perhaps it's at this level that someone could help, the level of problems in my keyboard sending out a signal, of the midi/usb interface, the first level of midi input in my computer. all the hardware should be functioning properly, i think.

Even though that link points to Google, it's actually more detailed than that. I wish these feckin BB shortcuts didn't look so sarcastic when the given link is actually a lot more detailed.

What kind of connect is the electronic drumkit? MIDI or USB?

i solved the problem. first i had to change something in the control panel, in the sound and audio devices tab. i had to change the midi setting to my usb/midi interface. the other thing is i'm using another computer. the one i was using is quite old, and has lots of problems. it's good for the trash. so here's the solution, for other users. i'm really grateful for all the help. thanks.:o
