Hi all,

I recently aquired a virus in my PC the other day so I had to reformat my HD. I re-installed Cakewalk Music Creator Pro, but now my projects have no sound. I get a window that says find missing audio. When I click on the file it will tell me file not found. Then I get another window telling me that I have missing audio and those tracks (all of them) will be silent. What happened?

Well it certainly sounds like when you formatted your hard drive that you erased all your audio (i.e., the wave files associated with the project).

I am not familiar with Music Creator, but what format were you saving your projects in? Project file format (.wrk or .cwp) does not contain the audio itself - only references to where the wave files are located. Bundle format (.bun or .cwb) on the other hand is a complete project, and does contain the associated audio. Sure sounds like you were using the Project format.

Did you back up your hard drive before formatting? If so, the wave files should be somewhere on the backup. If you didn't backup and you were saving in the Project format, you're pretty much SOL.

I saved the .wav files in a separate hard drive even the separated tracks so I figured I could at least start over and re-enter the .wav files again (GROAN). But even so, I'm still not getting any audio doing this. :(

Well if you saved the wave files and reloaded them back onto the hard drive, then the problem is most likely that Music Creator is looking for them in the wrong place.

Somewhere in your program menu's you should find an option to set your default audio directory. (Something like Options > Audio, or Options > Global > Audio). You either need to load the wave files into whichever directory is set as your default, or change the default setting to the directory where the waves are located.

That should solve the problem. The key thing is you have the waves saved. Without them you would have BIG problems.
