Hello. Im having a bit of a problem getting sound through my studio monitors in cubase.

Im using a zoomR8 as the audio interface, I know the studio monitors are working because I plugged them straight into my sound card.

Im using M-Audio Studio Monitors. I had to buy a splitter so I could connect two 1/4" outputs to my zoomR8.

All of my VST connections in cubase seem to be good, inputs and outputs are set to the zoomr8. My mackie control is set to the zoomr8.

I have headphones hooked up to the interface, and when I play a track I can hear it through the headphones. But when I switch the "monitor" button on in cubase to send it to my speakers I dont get any sound, and there are not even any visual sound waves, so I can see nothing is playing. All of my knobs are turned up too.

I have a feeling this is a simple problem to resolve. Any Help?

Is there a mute button on the Zoom output that is engaged?

This bit puzzles me. Having looked at the back of the Zoom R8 in photos there are 2 outputs, L and R for both of your monitors. You shouldn't need a splitter.

With the splitter, are you sending audio into your computer as well as your monitors or are you using the USB/MIDI? Do you have the correct outputs set in Cubase to use the Zoom R8?

No, the cord from the studio monitors goes from left and right down to one, so I had to split it

What M Audio monitors are you using? They make a pair with a 1/8" stereo connector? This doesn't sound right to me.

The 'Monitor' button in Cubase does not turn on your monitors. It allows you to hear the input signal, as opposed the what was already recorded to the track (playing back from software).

It sounds like you have not selected the Zoom in Cubase. Devices>Device Setup...>VST Audio Device. Then make sure you inputs and outputs are selected correctly via Devices>Device Setup..>VST Connections.

Your monitors need to be connected to the L/R outputs of the Zoom.

I found out what the problem was. I was given mono 1/4" connectors instead of stereo 1/4" connectors.

Im using the M-Audio AV30.

The cord that is given with the AV30 has 2 connectors that plug into the speaker, and that goes down into a single 1/8" connector that you can plug straight into your computer. So I had to buy a splitter to split the 1/8" back into a left and right.

Naw man, what you need is two 1/4" TS to RCA cables. Buy length needed to reach your monitors from interface. Connect them from the L/R outputs of the Zoom, to the RCA jacks on the 'Left' monitor that has inputs. Then connect speaker wire from the main monitor to the 'Right' monitor.

The AUX input on the front of the monitors is for like plugging in a MP3 player and stuff. Not what you want to be using here...

Your Zoom is replacing the sound card in your computer. Forget about plugging anything into your computer other than the USB cable.

Actually, in your case, you don't need separate cables. THIS is cheaper than buying two separate. Again, make sure you get the length you need to reach the first monitor from your interface.

Do manufacturers go out of their way to make people's lives difficult? I wonder... just looking at the back of those monitors and they use standard hifi type speaker connections to connect one to the other after running all the input into one of them... I get why they did that, but surely standard RCA ins and outs as inter-speaker connectors would have been a better idea...

Yeah they just scrimped on having to put an amp in each speaker. For the price of them though, I don't suppose it's too bad. As long as the work and they're clear enough. I have an old pair a PC speakers like that and they hum like old sweaty feet.

My feet are getting old and sweaty. Not looking forward to the hum.....:(

I'll just replace my feet with a good smelling sample foot with no hum! :)
