I use many software synths all the time within nuendo with a controller and a midiman 4x4 being my midi gear with no problems. I just select the synth and then midi 4x4 as the in and the particular synth as the out perfect! I recently purchased some outboard drum modules like the alesis dm5 etc.... I select my 4x4 as the in and im supposed to use my soundcard 1-2 out as my outs but I cannot get any sound out. I can see the midi info i just laid down and the meters are moving but no sound. I have a motu 24i soundcard. Any help would be greatly welcome. Thank you.

To use an external sound module, you need MIDI info going TO the module, and the audio output of the module going IN to your 24i, then monitor the OUTPUT of the 24i to hear the sound. Do you have the Cue Mix applet that comes with the 24i running?

I don't have any of the gear/software you use, so I can't get too specific here. Apparently MOTU has dis-continued the 24i since they brought out the 24 I/O, so I couldn't find info as to whether the 24i has a MIDI port -

Basically, you need to have a MIDI signal getting TO your sound module, whether from a controller or your software, then you need the AUDIO signal out of the module going into your soundcard and either getting recorded by Nuendo, or (realtime) going OUT of your soundcard to the speakers.

Have you checked MOTU's tech support FAQ on the 24i? There are some possibly pertinent things here

One that caught my eye was Configuring Motu Audio Hardware as your Windows Multmedia Device - check it out, post back.

Hope some of this helped... Steve
