Hi guys, I wonder if any one can help me with a quick answer to quick qestion.
I've set up Steinberg UR22 usb audio/interface with 'Cubase LE AI Elements 7' installed (i think it uses AI) on a new, top spec computer.
I have Fostex monitor speakers wired with TRS 1/4 to Outputs 1 & 2.
VST connections fine, and I can record quitar, and listen.
But I can't get anything through the headphones - recording or playback. Nothing at all.
It's got to be something simple - Ive had the UR22 for a week and phones haven't worked. Any thoughts??
Thanks guys,
PS - in Device Set-up, the checkbox for Direct Monitoring is greyed-out and uncheckable. This is the case whatever ASIO souncard or options I use. It's never been checkable. Could this be linked to H/Phone problem?
If you are sure the headphones work, and you have tried turning the headphone volume control on the front of the UR22, then you may have a defective unit.
Make sure the routing in the software is going to the UR22 (double check to make sure) and not the internal or another sound device. Start with the easiest and obvious when troubleshooting.
Thanks guys, so happy to get your replies.
Headphones, volume etc were OK - but (embarassingly) the headphones were always working, it's just that I was hearing the monitor speakers over them. I thought they would automatically turn off when headphones plugged in (doh!). So glad it's not a defective unit!
But.....
Therefore am I right to logically deduce that it's normal for the speaker volume controls to also control volume in headphones (as does the headphone volume control)?
And is it right that the only way I can turn off playback through monitors (eg for recording vocals over guitar with headphones) is by switching the monitors' power off?
(that's the only way I can have h/phones only, at present)
Does this make sense?
(any thoughts on why Direct Monitoring checkbox greyed out in Device Set-up?)
Without a monitor controller, likely your best bet is to run the monitors from a switched power strip or something to ease turning them off while tracking.
No clue what the Direct monitoring check box does. Never had reason to use it.
Thanks jimmys69 , I'll possibly get a switched strip in due time, but will manage with switching monitors off and on for the time being.
I don't seem to have any problem with latency, so probably won't miss the DM checkbox. It's just that it was one of the reasons why I plumped for this unit.
Thanks DM60 , don't quite understand what you mean, though! (sorry!)
But very grateful for your help. If you think of something else and have time, please feel free to share. Cheers guys!
