I just bought a Karma K35 condenser. I also picked up a pair of the K-Micros, SDC. The micros worked great last night, but I'm getting no signal from the K35.

I checked and re-checked the phantom power and tried a different mic input to no avail. Just so you know, I'm running the mic into a MOTU 8pre, and my computer has 32-bit Vista and Reaper. Any ideas??

Try swapping the cable first. If that doesn't change anything, then do you have any other device you can plug the mic into to test it?
Did you buy new or used? Can you bring it back to where you got it?

i used the same cable with both condensers and the micro (sdc) worked fine. I'll try another cable tho. the mic is brand new, so i assume there would be a warranty. i should be able to try it with another interface this evening.

I tried a new cable and input and got the same response. I'm guessing theres something wrong with my brand new mic

could be can you open it up to take a look for a loose wire? try not to make any scratches or other visible signs of entree it could be a very easy fix, or just send it back and make sure they pick up the shipping for it's not your fault.
where did you get it?

I ordered it online from Karma Audio. I unscrewed the bottom and as far as I can tell the solders look pretty good. the screws to get to the capsule look like they have glue on them so I don't want to get nabbed for taking the thing apart and be out my money. I'll see if I can get in touch with someone at Karma...

OK cool.
now this is a bummer......... for I've been contemplating the purchase of Karma mics. You said you got others how do they sound sonically?

I'm going to post this just as a reference to anyone considering purchasing from Karma Audio. I just got off the phone with their customer service. I described the problem and he quickly decided that something must have happened in shipping, gave me a return auth. number and is sending me a UPS shipping label. hopefully I'll have a working mic in a week or so... I also did some recording with the K-Micros last night and they sound great on acoustic guitar. I'll be doing some more recording tonight trying them at vox. I'll let you know how that goes!

Do you have drums to try them on?
and guitar amps?

no drums right now, maybe next week(I hope) but I was planning on recording vox, acoustic guitar, and maybe use it as a second mic for electric guitar tonight. I'll post them up here tonight if you're interested.

Ya sounds great.
I heard of an other that used a micro up close to an amp with a second LDC about 2 feet out from the amp and he was pleased with the results.

I wasn't able to get any electric guitar, but I got some vox and acoustic guitar, but I'm having trouble getting signed up with SoundClick. as soon as I can get my account activated, I will upload the song.

Well alright if they sound that good you'll be able to do live recordings at the motercycle ralley this year! Any good bands on the list?

idk we usually try to get away or hide for the first week or so of august.

ok so here is a track where acoustic guitar and vox were recorded with a K-Micro. The vox on the other track was recorded with a GLS-Audio ES 57, an SM 57 clone, for comparison. The only thing I have done to the track is edit the levels and add the fade out. The singer is doing bgv's on this track, so there are some parts where his voice drops out.

Well this is completley random.......but HEY someone else here from south dakota, and 30 minutes away from me!!!!! what are the chances of that!!!

CHEERS TONY!!!

I hope someone can still help me here... I got my mic back from Karma yesterday. they said that they couldn't reproduce any problems and my mic passed all tests no problem. But when I plugged it in to my interface (motu 8pre) I'm still getting nothing. I spoke to the tech at karma last week and he said that i may have bought unbalanced xlr cables, which won't work with the mic that needs a balanced signal. I looked at the connections and there are 3 different wires so I'm pretty sure they're balanced. I took a look online and they say they're balanced cables. when plugged in I am not hearing anything and my levels don't change, but i tried recording and could faintly hear a whistle on playback. I'm confused as hell right now...

maybe you didn't turn the gain up, the pad is on, the interface isn't routed correctly to you program, no track is assigned. It could be a crap mic too.
