I would appreciate any and all comments. This has been inside of me for along time. Thanks...
No one is born a Dad
Life didn’t seem all that bad, to a pair of twelve year old eyes
You were riding your bike on the road, with the wind blow’in your hair
But there were pot holes in the road, and trouble around the bend
You didn’t see it coming, but life was about to change
Chorus:
No one is born a dad, you learn it as we go
We sow the best of what we’ve learned and try to make it grow
For all the times I let you down, and all the times you cried
Remember that I always cared, and I gave it my best try
Hind sight is always better, than where we were back then
I watched the tears stream down your face, and heard you curse into the night air
Your face is etched into my memory, as I pulled out of the drive
You pulled your curtains in disgust, and wished I weren’t alive
No one is born a dad, you learn it as we go
We sow the best of what we’ve learned and try to make it grow
For all the times I let you down, and all the times you cried
Remember that I always cared, and I gave it my best try
Bridge:
It took me six long years to realize, the girl I left behind,
Felt the same as I did, in nineteen-eighty five
I remember my Mom’s face, as she pulled out of the drive
Her silver car fades away, and a part of me died
Now I’m forty years old, and looking back upon my life
What example did I set for you, what part would you plant and grow?
Through my selfish acts, my hurtful ways or my missed activities
I hope you learn from my mistakes, and accept my apology
No one is born a dad, you learn it as we go
We sow the best of what we’ve learned and try to make it grow
For all the times I let you down, and all the times you cried
Remember that I always cared, and I gave it my best try
