I'm not getting any input into my new Audiophile 2496! I'm sure I have something set up wrong somewhere, but I'm not sure what. Here are my options within Cakewalk:

Record Wave Device:

1. Multichannel 1/2
2. " " 3/4
3. " " 5/6
4. 1/2
5. S/PDIF
6. Mon. Mixer

Playback Wave Device:

1. Multichannel 1/2
2. " " 3/4
3. 1/2
4. S/PDIF

Which should I use on each?

Also, how should I have the Patchbay/Router setup within the Audiophile's mixer?:

H/W Out 1/2:

WavOut 1/2
Moniter Mixer
S/PDIF In
" " (L/R Rev.)
H/W In 1/2

First the patchbay/router: HW Out 1/2 should be set to WavOut 1/2.

Then, the output of Cakewalk should be set to 1/2 (your option 3), I think. I'm not sure what the first two (Multichannel 1/2 and 3/4) are for. Been a while since I've used Cakewalk.

Cakewalk's input should come from 1/2 (your option 4).

Try that and let us know whether it works.

(I'm assuming that you're seeing signal on the AudioPhile's meters. Correct? If not, we need to work on your connections and/or sound sources.)

I'm going to try those settings you gave me tonight.

I haven't seen any movement of the Audiophile's meters with anything I've tried previously.

Just for a note, my sound chain is real simple:

Shure SM-57 in front of amp>ART mic tube preamp>Audiophile soundcard

I'll let you know if my problem is solved. Thanks...

OK, I set everything up as DonF suggested and still no input anywhere. No movement of the meters, nothing.

I do get movement of the Audiophile's meters when playing back a CD or something, but absolutely nothing on input. Anymore ideas? Could it be a setting under my computer's Control Panel: Sounds and Audio Devices? I'm running out of ideas...

Hmmmmmmm....

First thing to do is to get the AP meters to register when you shout into the microphone.

A couple of ideas:
  1. Are your cables and connectors good?
  2. Are you cranking the preamp high enough? (You'll probably need the "+20dB" switch turned ON for a microphone.)
  3. Do you have the cable from the preamp to the AP plugged into the right connector?
  4. How is your AP router/patchbay set?
  5. How is your AP mixer set?
[/list=1] We will get to the bottom of this.

Ooh, one more thing: what kind of cable do you have between the preamp and the AP? Are you using the XLR or the 1/4" output from the preamp, and how are you getting it to the AP's RCA input -- are you using an adaptor, or a custom cable, or what?

Here's all my answers to your questions:

A couple of ideas:

1. Are your cables and connectors good?- Yes. I'm using a 1/4" female to RCA male adapter to plug a regular guitar cable into the soundcard. I'm going from the 1/4" output of the mic preamp. It's worked in the past on my old soundcard.

2. Are you cranking the preamp high enough? (You'll probably need the "+20dB" switch turned ON for a microphone.)- Full blast and the +20db button is on.

3. Do you have the cable from the preamp to the AP plugged into the right connector?- I'm going into the white RCA input on the Audiophile. I have tried the red though also to no luck.

4. How is your AP router/patchbay set?- I set it up as you suggested in the earlier post. HW Out 1/2 is set to WavOut 1/2.

5. How is your AP mixer set?- Everything is unmuted and full blast on the AP's mixer to insure that nothing is left out.

Sure appreciate your help DonF. I imagine we'll find out what the problem is before too long. I never thought this new soundcard was going to be so frustrating...

On the Hardware Settings tab, do you have Master Clock set to "Internal Xtal"? (you should)
