No input Ahh!

Mixing and Mastering.
I cant seem to get an input into Wavelab for recording my voice with a microphone. I have just got a new sounblaster audigy 2 soundcard and it has been installed.
I can hear the microphone in the left ear (stereo cable) when i plug the mic into the line in but not when i plug into the mic in!

I have checked the levels in the control panel and they are all fine.

Anyone have any ideas what is up?
 
Why would you plug the microphone into the line-in? For this, you'll need a mic preamp to amplify your mic signal.

Microphones are mono and that's why you only hear one channel (left ear). To solve this, go to RadioShack and buy a mono-to-stereo connector and plug it into the line-in of your soundcard.

Make sure you select the recording in as Line-in.

Cheers supercharge. The reason i was pluging into the line in was becasue i wasnt hearing anything in the mic in. But i can now record using the mic in but i cant hear any playback while recording into Wavelab and also there are glitches.
I have a sample of what i mean by glitches.

Ok, now I can record a good signal but i cant stop it from distorting. I tried changing the levels in control panel and volume etc, but when i lower the input volume it still distorts once past a certain level just its at a lower volume.

Is there anything i am missing here that will lower my input signal so it doesnt distort?
Any help would be brillinat as i have spent ages tryin to get it to work and now that i finally have a half decent soundcard i need to know how to get it working.
 
Most likely your mic is boosted up by +20db. Untick that option .

Arrghhhh!!! I unticked the +20dB gain input box and now the problem with the glitches has come back.
I realy cant understand this!!
Please help im in desperate need of help on this puzzle.
 
You have 3 songs, which one have the glitches. at what points?
