well hi.

hey, i think my turntable (teac P-988) does NOT have a ground wire, and i'm getting buzz that i can't live with. does anybody know a way around this?

like i said, i can't find a ground wire coming out of the turntable... i'm going from turntable--> phono preamp--> portastudio

thanks for considering,
douglas hanchetti

I would take it to an electronics store in your area (if you don't see a ground wire coming out of the turntable).

hmmm... maybe i'm confused then. is the ground wire an entirely separate wire used solely for grounding?

on the back of the turntable, there is an RCA cable, and there's a power cable. so maybe i'm just overlooking something?

either way, i have no idea what i'm doing and probably risk electricution. but if anybody has some ideas, dangerous or otherwise, i'll try them out.

thanks,

...

there should be a groud wire either along with the RCA cables
or seprate

there is a way to "ground" the table itself
but its a long process
i will see if i can hunt down the article i read

peace

Yes. You are correct.
Just like LiquidBronze said, "there should be a groud wire either along with the RCA cables or seperate".

okay, thanks for the comments. LiquidBronze: i would definitely be interested in reading that article.

i've attached a tasteful diagram that might help depict my situation...

thanks!

The NAD/Rega turntable I bought last year doesn't have a ground. But it doesn't buzz either!

You should probably take it in to the shop......!

thanks, everybody. I went to radio snatch last night and the guy showed me a ground loop isolator for $15. hopefully, that'll do the trick.
