No Doubt bass sound

Ok, I admit it I like No Doubt! There, I said it. What I really like about No Doubt is how that guys bass sounds on the recordings (especially Return of Saturn). Does anyone have any info about how that record was recorded or what bass/amp combination he used, I think I have seen him play MusicMans and ?Yamaha? in their videos.

He uses Ampeg bass amps alot, the older ones. This is live though, so I'm not sure what is used for recording. But it COULD be the Ampegs, because their bass amps had a pretty unique sound, hard to describe, but those with Ampegs know what I mean.
