i just cant seem to get my computer and keyboard to communiate the midi cords are just not sending n e signals . what can i do to get them to start sending midi in and out

A little more info please.

What software are you using? Cakewalk, Cubase...?

What is your sound card? Are the midi drivers installed?

How do you know you aren't sending anything out of the keyboard? Do you have a midi cable tester? Don't ask me what that is, I've never seen one. What is your keyboard?

The problem is most likely that you don't have the midi drivers enabled in the sequencing/recording software you are using.

Give a description of your setup.

I looked up the psr-270, so I have some idea what your
keyboard is like. Don't know anything about the software.

Are you looking at the manuals? That is very important. They will guide you more than anything else.

Are you trying to record midi to the computer using the software?
That should be your first step. This may be a stupid question but I have to ask: You know that when you record midi you are NOT recording actual sounds, right? You are recording midi "events".
These events don't actually have a sound. They are just commands in a way. Do you know this?

Make sure that you connect the midi out of the keyboard to the midi in of the sound card. What kind of sound card do you have?

I'm assuming you are running Windows of some kind.

Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel and select the System icon.

Then the Device Manager tab.
Under Sound, video and game controllers you should see
something that has the words Midi Driver in it.

If you don't, then you may not have a midi driver for your sound card.

Once you know you have a midi driver you need to enable it in the software tool that you have.

Remember, use your manuals. They should have a trouble shooting section.

Good luck,
