Hopefully joeym, terry, rami, wig, and many others will drop in and share their knowledge here - super singers that they are...If I forgot you I apologize....

Nice to see a vocalist forum even though we have to share it with songwriters (hey that's me too oh nooooooo).....

Glad you posted this, Ido. I didn't even notice the new forum. I just saw your post in the "New Posts" section.

I din't know if I have any business in this place, but hopefully I'll learn something from guys like Joey and Supercreep.

Already forgot supercreep....damn I'm burnt out.....good thing I apologized in advance....

I'm glad you like the idea. I was pushing for something for vocals for a while. Sorry we mixed it in with songwriting, but I couldn't see where else to put and suggested here. The mic forum is more about equipment and micing techniques. vocals and singing is more about the song.

Yup, some really great talent frequent this site and I'm hoping to learn a little from them.

Does anyone here use V-vocal?

It's part of the Sonar program that does some manipulation like Melodyne.

Actually I don't know about Melodyne, but I just thought I'd throw that in because sometimes V-vocal and Melodyne are used in the same sentence.

I'm mixing a song now that has four different voices in the chorus. None are mine so I can't re-track.

So I'm using V-vocal for time stretching and minor pitch correction.

But, there is a limit to how much you can stretch or shorten in the time scheme.

Hey, did I just make up that phrase? Time scheme?

Wig:)

I readily admit to using Melodyne. I also photoshop all my pictures. :D However, you can hear Melodyne if the corrections are too much. If I'm more than half a step off on a note, I'll retrack it instead of correct. But being able to tighten up one note that's off a little is so much nicer than doing a million retakes. Let's me concentrate more on expression than technique. Ha ha ha, because I have no technique. :p

I have Sonar, but don't use it much and have not tried V-Vocal yet.

Anyone who relies on pitch correctors can't be much of a vocalist...or Kanye West.

I already said I use V-vocal and I am a vocalist. I rarely have to correct my pitch, but I'm glad that I have it.

If you don't have relative pitch, then you don't need it. You can't tell what is off pitch unless you can hear it. It may be only 5% off, but if you care, you correct it.

Thank you for your traditionalism. I never said I was much of a vocalist. :D

However, I am the most beautiful person in the world and I still photoshop my pictures. :p

Anyone who relies on Newtonian physics and calculators can't be much of an architect or an engineer either.

Forums up a couple of days and already dogma!

The tools used do not define the ability of the user, only the outcome of their craft can do that.

Can't forget Supercreep! :) "Lady Policeman"... Damned good tune.

Who was it that sang "Date Rape"? That was a good tune too.

Cheers,
Joseph
