<noob query>

anyone out there know if the nforce 2 mobos and the digidesign 001 card and software will work together? the digi website says PURE VIA chipset, but it also seems like it hasn't been updated in awhile....

i love my ABIT KT133A, it's been a rock solid, overclocking beast. It's just the dual channel DDR RAM goodness of the nForce is beckoning me. I love having system with lots of memory bandwith, it eliminates soooooo many issues.

also, a question for you 001 users- do any of you have experience in terms of RAID vs SATA? if you already have a lot of fast RAM (i'm thinking at least a gig of PC3200, if not more) are the differences in these formats even worth spending more on one vs another??

You know, I could have sworn that the NForce2 was supported, but now in checking I see that it's not listed. Hmmmm

If I were you, I would stick with the Kt400 chipset, and get the Asus A7V8X Deluxe.

What exactly are the nforce boards? Does that just mean that an NVidia video card is built in?

The Asus A7V8x-GBL is the top of the line asus kt400 board, as follows.

Asus A7V8x-GBL: KT400, K7,133-Raid (0, 1)/S-ATA, DDR400,USB, i1394,G-Lan, AGP8x

What is the difference between this board, and the ASUS nforce board? I'll post it below.

A7N8x-DX nForce2-ST, AGP8x, A133, S-ATA, i1394,Dual-DDR400, Audio,Dual-Lan, 6USB2

correct me if i'm wrong but....

the key difference between the VIA KT400 chipset mobos and the nForce 2 is that nforce2 has whats termed "dual channel" memory, which is a much higher bandwith solution than the KT400.

nVidia, obviously, are as good as it gets in integrated graphics, and the onboard sound has recieved positive reviews as well.

Even Intel, in fact, has ditched expensive rambus based ram in favor of plain old dual channel DDR for their latest chipsets.

the KT400A, a new version, however, might have dual channel memory. anyone out there with a clue??

it's just been my experience with computer based recording that memory bandwith can sometimes be more of a factor than raw processor speed.

i don't mind the time to load up or save a session (gives me time for a break) it's just once i'm in it i want to manipulate it quickly.

thanks for replying to a noob, though, guys!

Looks like the Nforce 2 works well according to people on their message board. I've done a Digi001 computer with an Intel 815 chipset and one with a Via KT333 based Raid board so I dunno from experience though. Just read about it...

You might want to try the digidesign board for a question like this- they have a LOT more people who use digi stuff over there so you are more likely to run into someone who knows.

Take care,
And welcome to the board! There's tons of great stuff here, too, just not as much about digi hardware compatibility. :)
