I have the Bosendorfer290 from EastWest with its builtin Kompakt Sample Player and I have had pretty good luck with it. Any suggestions on the sampler I should get in the sub $300 range for nice string sounds. I am using Cakewalk Home Studio 4 (Planning to upgrade to Sonar Studio 5 after I build my 64bit pc)
Any experiences you have had would be greatly appreciated.

If you don't plan on going beyond the limited editing capabilities provided by NI for the Kompakt player then you can take your pick of a passel of string sample CD's --- start here.

I will have to buy Kompakt because the Kompakt that comes with the B290 does not allow loading of other samples as far as I can tell. Maybe I am wrong. Kompakt by itself has a ton of samples that come with it. Perhaps I will go that direction. I don't (yet) know enough to go crazy editing anyway I think.

Thanks
JT

Save up and buy Kontakt (you know...The Big Brother). Seriously, you already have a handle on Kompakt, so you can easily get up and running with Kontakt, and enjoy TONS more features. A lot of people swear by the Garriton Personal Orchestra. I personally use Edirol Orchestral and various samples from the likes of Sonic Implants, and East West Advanced Orchestra, or hardware synths.
