next step up

ok, so i stared out recording oh windows built in recorder and a gaming and chat mic that was around 14$ if that....now ive got my girlfriends kareoke mic-"the singing macine, and cool edit pro and some free progs w/ that. whats my next step up...what would you all suggest?...jw
