first thing first, this song kicks some *serious ass!*

the mix sounds very harsh though.. almost like it was run through a sonic maximizer or something.. not pleasing to the ears.. the guitar and vocals both have a harsh sound, and the guitars are too loud in some of the heavier sections..

very ass kicking tune.. great vocals too.. reminds me a lot of Phil..

definitely needs something to not make it sound so harsh.. the highs are killing me..

did I mention this is a great tune!

Thanks for listening!!!! Harsh Indeed!

Thanks, i think i over processed it, i used an enhancer on certain frequencies, and 3 band compressors on the whole mix, and and i think i just braught out way too much of the high end. I will remix and repost with some of your suggestions. I think Tj sounds alot like fill also.

AAAAAAaaarrrrrggggghhhhhh....

I think this song sounds angry. I think it should sound "happier." Perhaps you could "brighten" the theme of it by having a young girl sing it...Or maybe that Erland chap.

Yes, I'm kidding...LOL.

Song + Performance = Excellent. Seriously impressive. The mix needs some work, and I can't really add anything to what B.SABBATH pointed out. I listened about 5 times, and it definitely gets easier on the ears after 20 minutes, so I'm thinking maybe this got mixed soon after and while listening to it at loud volumes. The whole mix is pegged all the way across. I don't think you need to even jack with eq'ing this. The tracks are great, so I'd just take another run at mixing it with totally fresh ears.

You're 99% there.

You are dead on

I did the terrible mixing while tracking...bad idea. Thanks for the listen, it is alot more harsh sounding today with fresh ears. I will rest them a bit more and remix like you all suggest. Thanks for the compliments. I will repost with my neice singing backing vocals hahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!! J/K Thanks again for the comments

Move over Phil!Well I would ask him politely to possibly scooch over a tad. This guys (TJ?) voice is great. This is the type of shit I gotta hear .Good work.I don't think many in this forum can handle this type of music.Don't get discouraged by lack of response.I may not like you as a member but keep sendin this kick ass metal and I'll atleast review it and give props when thay are due.Needs a guitar solo...

damn!!! I just got my ass kicked!!! killer tune and performance.

MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT

I'll warn you that I'm on headphones right now, and I listened on monitors yesterday, but I'm positive this is a lot easier on the ears. Hell yes. And it's not pinned to the absolute ceiling, either. Yeah, much much better.

[edit] Did the vocal drop in the middle? Seems lower than I remember...and maybe a tad too low.

Mix adjustments

Yeah the vocals i brought down a tad, i may have over compensated once i decreased the processed sound. It made the mix of the music seem a little more quiet so i turned the vocals down a bit. Maybe too much. I think this came out a lot less harsh as well. And before i think i compressed it so hard that it was louder than most commercial cd's. So i eased back a ton on volume. I think maybe a bit too much on that as well. Thanks for the advice. If anything else strikes you guys let me know what needs fixing. I listen so much that i become immune to my own music...fresh ears of others is a GOOD THING!!!

Wasn't going to respond... but I'm gonna extend the olive branch here.

Can't really give you an idea about the mix, since I'm not sure "how" you want it to sound. As is, it just about works. I'm not crazy about the extra "clicky" bass drum during the quiet parts. It works during the heavier parts, I guess.

As far as "harshness" goes... really mid-heavy stuff will sound like that... You may want to add some rhythm guitar or something else for the 1kHz... something that's lower than the "middy" rectifier guitars. It could help "tame" things.

To be honest, nu-metal has got to be one of the hardest genres to record/mix. Everything has to be huge, yet stay defined. For something you've recorded yourselves, it sounds better than average.

As for getting more "responses"-- you get what you give, in here. You got two song threads in here... if they were my song threads... I'd try to listen to at least 6 other songs and make comments. To be honest, it probably pissed a few people off when reading stuff like "I guess only certain people get reviews here". That stuff bothered me... but like I said to begin.. I'm puttin out the olive branch.

Plus.. a guy with a Homer avatar can't be all bad ;)

holy shit that bass drum.....whoa...that has too hurt....kick ass guitar tone.....really like the disonance on the verse guitar....is this all you or a band??...man i dig all of this except the vocals...but thats just cause i like lyrics...and altho these might be kick ass lyrics..i would never know....that isnt a "slight" just not my thing.....but as the whole i can totally get into this ..

very cool.
jamal

p.s...i noticed a coupla spots where the drums were off a tad...so im assuming its a real drummer.....nice work...i cant even tap my fingers that fast....

I am not an asshole in real life!!!!!!!

Participant: Fist off i want to clear this up before i get like voted off this forum or something. Anything i say here shouldn't be taken too seriously. I have a sarcastic sense of humore, and goof around alot...just check out my song Pancakes...i did't mean for anyone to get pissy about replying to my own post...it was a jole.
I think i should have changed the bass drum sounds for the light sectionas well. Something with less punch, and more ambience. Thanks again for the listen, and apologies for my sick sense of humor..
Oh and the thought about the rythym guitar in the 1khtz area, what exactly do you mean, just add some low end to the guitars to give them more meatiness?

Jamal: i only play the guitars, the rest of this my band Emotional Flatline. I play the drums but i can't do anything like that...i am way basic. That is the kinda shit i pull my hip flexors to. As for the vocals, most people either hate them or love them. Our band is this style but i plan on posting my own stuff where i play all the insrtuments...alot more laid back. Kinda folkish i guess.

yeah, i had burned the first mix to a CD and listened to it in my car where i do my best listening and i ususally put cd's at level 20 when i really want to jam.....but damn i had to turn it down to 17 for a comfortable level.......i would make suggestions but i have to get the up-to-date version........i'm off to download for the rest of the afternoon........damn dial-up

otherwise i like the riffs, is this mostly a demo??? guitar flubs...... man, your drummer is sick. 32nd notes!! well, i guess i'll find out when i download this other one......

Whoa.. I need to listen to this on something besides these cheap headphones.....

Get back at you a bit later.... Hold on!
