Try the line in instead. Mic in doesn't work well.

Also, your sound card won't be the greatest quality being in a compaq, it's probably built on to the mainboard. You may want to get another soundcard installed, range in price from $30 for a Creative/Ensonic (which will be much better than what you have now.) to $1000+

You may not be able to disable the onboard sound in the BIOS , but should be able to work around it in Device Manager.


Also, going in to the line in direct with a bass is not going to give you much of a signal. You need a preamp of some type, whether it be a mixing board, or a stand alone preamp like the ART MP or Dual MP, Bellari products etc..

I have a Compac pasario running windows 98, with the factory CDR drive, I'm DI'ed stright into the MIC port of the PC from Just the bass. I set up accs. to sound recorder, and set the time for the track. Every thing is off except mic level, input level,and vol level. (all three have to be on or no sound) Watching the record level monitor it stays in the green.
My recordings are comming out with a constant hiss, and a tick sound intermitantly
All cables are fine, the sound recorder has a hiss to it with nothing pluged in?? why is that? the wav file also hisses.. And carries over to the CD ( JUST BURN ) program. I used the filters, Despekel and max volume to no success. I'm about to throw this thing out the window!! Anyone got a clue to whats happening..I'm just smart enough to be stupid

I'll be running through a Digitech BP-8 tube processor ...Hot enough
