Good song. You totally got the blink-adnoid-early-00's-proud-to-be-a-Boy-in-a-punk-boy-band thing down, thats all the rage now. Although Im into darker more serious minor chord rock, this song is good and the band is good. The instruments are all doing their thing well and the balance is there. All it really needs is some compression and some more EQ. The drums sound electronic but well done and they sound like they were played by a drummer. The singer is totally there for the genre with that combination of high energy fun and irony. If the rest of the songs are as solidly written as this one, Id sign them.
I would try giving the guitars some at 125-250Hz, cut the bass there a bit to make room and pull them up a few dB in the mix. I would also give the mix some air bet 8-12k. Especially the vocals. Try using a limiter like the loudness maximizer, sonic timeworks' mastering comp to get the overall volume up.

Nice work.

You've already compressed the crap outta' the vocals, right? They sound great. I'd bump the level on the vox (lead and bg) a TAD...like 1db. Then, I'd put this song in the "I'm A Rock Producer God" box and move on to your next engineering masterpiece. I'm thinking it's about time for one of those totally ironic punk ballads about now.

Everybody who posts after me will probably have tons of helpful stuff, but I have a sneaking suspicion that you know you're about done with this tune. It's time for you to start fixing MY mixes.

:D
:D
great work,

Another winner and this time the band didnt get out of time!(at least not as noticeable as the last tune)

Pop/punk/rock candy all the way but very good nonetheless. They sure know how to right a vocal hook.

You're on the road to greatness, Darth.

And to think, I remember Darth way back when he used to post all that "What preamp should I get?" stuff. :D lol.

Everybody: thanks for the suggestions...they're all great comments, and I'll keep them in mind for sure.

chrisharris: Yes...compressed the PISS out of the vocals for sure! I think, if anything, the bg vox need to come up. And for future record, I'm for hire to fix ANYBODY'S mixes!!!!

Kramer: Not so off tempo on this one....thankfully. I'm glad that you noticed!

Chess: Thanks for the comments, and I still want that Grace Designs 101 mic pre....haha!

I like this one. The recording and performance is very professional. Nice structure and style....sounds a little bit like that band that does the theme from Malcolm in the middle.

Nice Darth,

Please give us some insight into how this was recorded, what mics, pre etc.......? Trully a great Rock Producing Genius.

Loved It!

I think we all like the progress Darth is making, and he has certainly flashed a lot of skill and potential . . . but I don't know if I'm ready to pin the "Rock Producing Genius" tag on him just yet. :D No offense, Darth. But you're on the right track, for sure.

I am curious to know now what gems you may have uncovered in terms of gear since you went on that mad search several months ago for the ultimate mics and pre. Don't tell me you're still using the Behringers. :D

In what ways do you think you've gotten better since you first started posting here, and do you attribute it to better gear or just more developed skills? Damn, I'm starting to sound like a freakin' news reporter now. And coming up at 11 . . .

Thanks for the responses, everybody.

I can't tell you everything, then I would be giving my competition an extra edge, and that just wouldn't be right, would it?!?!?! HAHA!

The gear that I've used is the same gear that I've had for the past year. I track to a Roland VS-2480, then export all of the tracks to my computer for using many plugins/doing lots of editing. Then I import all of the tracks back into the 2480 for mixing.

I use 6 channels of Aphex 107 mic pres. I never use the onboard pres in the 2480. I track every instrument as an overdub. The drummer gets a scratch guitar track, and everything else is overdubbed individually.

This is what I have for mics:
2 Groovetube AM52's
2 SM57's
2 Audio Technica 3528's
Audix D2
AKG D112
Marshal MXL 2001

Chessrock, when I was looking for a mic pre way back, I was looking for the best mic pre that I could buy for under $1000. I was looking for something really clean to throw on the snare drum and vocals. I never ended up buying anything cause I didn't run inot the money that I was supposed to!

If I have indeed gotten better, I can't attribute it to better gear; I haven't gotten any new gear since I registered here!

I would attribute it to trial and error, and knowing how to use the tools available to me in order to make the song sound how I think it should sound (to the best of my ability, at least!)

Thanks again, guys.

I loved this one. I've liked every one of your songs that I've heard. Great writing and playing. Great harmonies. Great feel to the song. Great everything.

Man, I ALWAYS love your sound and this one does not disappoint. What do you track your guitar parts with?? What are you running thru??

I love the HEYYYYY!!!!
HEYYYY HO lets go!!

Dude,

Great arrangment and dynamics. Tracking sound great.

Positive message in the lyrics;)

Can't help ya on the mix........your way past my level but, I had to say I dug the spirit of the mix and the energy you capture.

Peace out,

Theron.

King Elvis: one of the guitars is a no-name guitar through a peavey amp, amp's distortion, and a 57. The other is a Les Paul through a Marshal JCM900 mic'd with a 57.

Thanks again everybody, for listening and giving your comments!
